i think the real ones are sprayed with a fire retardant. Not sure I would let the birds near it. I have had fake and real. never had a problem with either, but also, never let the birds near it.
The bird room one is about 4 ft tall. It has nothing on it that can hurt them, should they get out by some stroke of magic. I put it up on a box, so they cant reach it from the floor. I have been very lucky so far with no bird flying into the trees. My one in the livingroom is often my backdrop for my holiday cards.... first pic is of their tree..(yes, there is a tree under there!) second and third are ones from the past

wait so can I have a real tree? If he does not get into it? I figured since its a part of nature that its not like it produces chemicals or anything... I think I will die if I cant have a tree! O and wanted to add that its not even thanksgiving and you have trees up LOL! Thats worse than me I wait till the day after Thanksgiving.

Ahhhh gotcha... cause I thought pine trees were okies for birdies.
We probably won't have one anyway. It's just us, the birds, and the human kids and hubby would rather decorate the house anyway  Lisa... those trees with all the birds in front of them.... ugh!!! SO gorgeous!

I only have one up in the store right now for decoration.
Since I ordered holiday themed things I need a place to showcase them. The trees at home go up sometime after the 10th of Dec. I might start earlier this year since I am working and dont have as much time. We are also having a holiday open house for the neighborhood and our families and friends, so It has to be just so.

Yeah... I mean if you go and chop down a tree that wasn't sprayed with chemicals then you most definitely can let them play and chew on it...
But Lisa B was right, they do spray the ones at the lot with fire retardant. My friend worked a lot one year, I watched him do it once. ... They can spray a lot of trees it like five minutes!
