I wanted get into taxidermy. I find it fascinating. I can see why owners would want to have their pets stuffed and mounted, but I can also see how disturbing it may be. I think I wouldn't mind. At school they have a stuffed lorikeet who I used to sit upon my desk as I worked in art class ^_^ I call him Charlie.
Some artists create hybrid animals by sewing together two different species. Sarina Brewer is an amazing artist... here is a link to her site... Welcome to Custom Creature Taxidermy Arts

My friend had her iguana stuffed and displayed by her window. Looked really awesome but somewhat creepy at the same time.

While I wouldn't do it, I don't think it is weird or creepy. What's weird or creepy about wanting that animal to be a part of your life even after they are gone? I have weird issues with dead things so I couldn't do it just because of that.
Yet I do plan on being cremated and yes, I would do it to my birds too. I would not be able to be without them forever. They are a big part of my life and I see nothing wrong with having them around in some form. I would not bury them because at some point in my life, we will move and I would not want to leave them behind. |

I'm sorry. "Creepy" was a bad word. I totally understanding wanting to see your baby all the time even after life has passed. My sincere appologies if that came out the wrong way. Just knowing this iguana since it was a baby then seeing him like that knowing he wasn't alive anymore.
We got a PALACE of an urn for Murphy when she was cremated and kept a piece of her tail fur, heh. Spoiled in the afterlife too :P |

I also could not have my pets...gulp....stuffed. Not for me. I do like the cremation now available and I agree with Halo I don't like to leave my pets behind. When I drive by a old house of ours , all I can think of is my kitty that is buried back there.

My mum had our dog cremated years ago... she plans on him being inturned with her. They had the biggest bond in life and I think it's sweet that she wants to end up with him again. I think that's what I'd like to happen with my pets too.
People deal with loss differently and I don't find any of these ways of dealing as creepy at all. Stuffing my pets isn't for me though, I'd rather remember them how they were when alive... barking, screeching and purring, not sitting on the side. |
