When I find the camera cable, I'll share pics!

That is nothing... My friend who is a photographer did a photo shoot at this really rich girls house, and I came along to help with equipment and stuff.
We had just finished setting everything up and were waiting for the brat...er... I mean daughter to come home so we could start. We decided to wait in the living room... Well it turns out that her dad is a hunter. And we walked into a full scale Giraffe (taxied) and various exotic animals (all taxied): Lion, various monkeys, A freakin white tiger!, an antelope head, and a REAL zebra rug. It was sad. Did I also mention my friend (the photographer) is a Peta member?
He ran to the bathroom and threw up... a lot!
Not that I didn't feel like it!
And I don't like the idea of doing it to an already deceased pet. But ruthlessly killing innocent WILD animals for money! I mean who does that?
He didn't even eat any of them, what was the point?
And half those animals are endangered! Lions... they're not doing so hot.
And tigers I think they're a little worse... especially a white one!

That was like a year and a half ago and I still remember them like it was yesterday. I am disgusted.
I hate stupid rich people in Orange County that don't give a [explative] about a life.
I mean would you go out a kill a bunch of humans an put them on display in your FREAKIN LIVING ROOM!

The African Display had an elephant, a lion, a hippo (or two), two leopards, two zebras, a hyena, a warthog, and other creatures I can't even remember the name of... no giraffes, though! There's also a polar bear in one of the displays. Found the cable, so when I upload pics I'll just put in a new thread...

I don't like PETA but I don't blame you and your friends reaction, either! I would have found it fascinating to see what the animals looked like, but otherwise wouldn't have cared for the displays more than that... with that said, I used to own the right wing to a barn owl (supposedly came from an indian through someone else, and most assuredly stolen by neighborhood kids when we packed up and moved to our current place - sounds sickening and gross but made for a great example of a birds wings, how the feathers are shaped, etc for flight).

Haha never mind than.
The animals really were beautiful to see in person, but that is what made it more sickening.
I would much rather have seen them in a zoo... alive.
I don't think the owl wing is that bad. As long as you didn't kill him for mere decoration. But it is a good thing you don't have it anymore, since I think it's illegal to own even feathers to a bird of prey without a falconers licence.

Indeed, better to see in a zoo, or better yet, out in the wild!

Actually, as far as I know, the wing [or body part] of any protected or wild species is illegal to keep unless you have a specific license or you are a Native American. I do have some in my blood, but I'm sure it's not enough to count! I got the wing from someone who said they got it from a friend who is Native American. In truth, I still wish I had it, because I could then use it as a learning tool, but why it was stolen in the first place, I haven't a clue! (I don't know how much was stolen from us other than the wing and a conch shell - both of which happened to be mine - so who knows what goodies they went home with!)

That sucks... But is totally random that they would only take the wing and a shell worth like $5.
I guess you just have to get another bird that will open his/her wings on command... you know to use as a learning tool

Charlie will, but he's not trained to! Actually, if I preen his armpit, he'll lift his wing and usually start preening in that area, however he will not actually lift open his wings all the way. I've considered trying and teaching him "Big Eagle" but I just tend to be lazy when it comes to training for the birds! (don't need them doing fancy tricks as I'm fine having them as they are, screaming and all! Just not on bad days!!! LOL)

Everyone's posts here certainly were interesting!

Anyone go to the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia? That museum was originally a doctor's reference museum, now open to the public. They have a lot of wierd human sickness tissue samples in jars, internal organs, skeletons, etc. on display there. That program was featured on Direct TV several times.

I don't know why looking at forensic stuff on TV about people does not bother me, but looking at dead, displayed animals, or hunted down wildlife makes me want to barf. I cannot even watch those animal cruelty shows on Animal Planet.

BWAHAHAHAHAAA!
That made my night. I'm going to bed now, because it's just not going to get any better than this. LOL.
Yeah, LOL. Like voluble noises came out of me. No LQTM.
I LOL'd.

... anyways, I'm a little bit late but will throw my two cents in for fun. Taxidermy for pets? Creepy to me, but it's whatever you want. I also don't like the idea of burying pets (or people, for that matter).
Pets: mainly because I've moved so much in my life, and I hate to leave them behind.
People: I can't stand the idea of being buried. That's just a personal preference, I want to be cremated when I go.
I kinda like the idea of the "cremation jewelry" though. Well... I dunno. I probably wouldn't do it, but it's a nice idea.
*shrugs*
