Thumbs up An unexpected vet visit

My Rose Breasted Cockatoo Gator got a bad wing clip a few months ago. When she tries to fly, or coast to the ground, she actually goes over backwards instead. Usually she lands with her tail feathers bent underneath her, which is painful, I'm sure. She's broken a few tail feathers, but nothing major until today.

She flipped off her playstand and landed hard on her tail feathers, as usual. But this time there were blood droplets, lots of them. I could see that her tail was bloody, so I assumed it was a broken blood feather. Called my birdy vet and rushed her down within 15 mins. They pulled two blood feathers (one broken, one split up the middle, yecch) and three broken ordinary feathers.

The unexpected part? They charged me NOTHING for the vet call. This kind of thing just doesn't happen here in The OC....

Where in the OC do ya live?
What vet was it.
Not that I am going to change vets or anything, I am looking for good one for emergencies... My regular vet is in san diego... not to great for emergencies.

The vet is Dr. Tom Greek. He just opened a new clinic close to where I live in Yorba Linda (luckily it didn't burn down in last week's fires!). I first started using him approx. five years ago when I bought a baby cockatiel from Omar's and they gave me his name for the free vet check after purchase.

Since then I've used him for bloodwork, as well as split keel bones (yikes). He's VERY reasonably priced and handles a lot of exotics in addition to birds.

Cool... I am a little farther down south...
*I go to the El Toro Omar's all the time, I know all of the staff*

I'm about 10 mins away from the other Omar's, and drive past it all the time. Far too often, I stop in and buy treats & toys for the birds. My bank account wishes that Omars was further away!

Glad everything worked out fine for you.

We already have a superb AV for Sydney but I've made a note of your vet's name just in case.

Sydney's AV is Dr. Larry Nemetz in Orange. It's a birds only practice....no dogs, cats, hamsters etc. He's just great with Sydney and is considered to be one of the best AVs. To say the we are very pleased with him would be a understatement. But it's always good to have an alternative should the need arise.

Where in Yorba Linda is Dr. Greek located?

Donna and I hit Omar's quite frequently also. Mainly the El Toro store. But we will drive up to Placentia just for something different. I liked the San Juan Capistrano location until they closed it and moved back to El Toro. There was just something about that old, historic house in SJC.

Dr. Greek's address is 23687 Via Del Rio, in Yorba Linda. It's off of La Palma (east end of La Palma, after crossing YL Blvd) and it's located in one of those business parks. His number is 714-463-1190.

It's always good to have a back-up vet in mind, just in case. I've made a note of Dr. Nemetz too!
