Anyone Spring has sprung! And frost in my area of Canada is all gone,....yeeha! I can't wait for my organic veggies to start growing.(So I can feed to the fids)

Fruit wise I'm growing;
-Red peppers
-Black Currents
-Rasberries
-Strawberries
-Tomatoes

Veggy Wise I'm growing;
- Swiss Chard
- Brocolli(Can't wait....first time growing it,lol)

And in my herb garden I'm growing(May someone please tell me if one of these herbs is toxic?(I believe chives may be harmful to the fids, but thats a total guess?);
-Thyme
-Two species of basil
-Dill
and
-Chives

And then I'm growing rhubarb! BUT, I know thats a nono....BUT makes good rhubard strawberry apple crisp,mmmmmmmm *saliva drops*

So, is anyone else growing some yummy freshfoods for the fids?
Steven

Hi There Steven~ I am in an area where growing a garden like I used to just doen't work very well here...sooo I have decided to grow Mango trees, BottleBrush, & just recently grapevines were added to the outside of our aviary, & TIKI has already munched on all the reachable grapes,leaves & stalk!!!! Sooo, I guess I will concentrate on some type of herb garden someday soon...in the meantime, our birds eat lots of what we eat, along with their vaired seed/pellet diet as a one day ounce of bird junk! They also get four /five variations of nuts which they love... Sounds like you are doing terrific with your garden...and YES I agree I LOVE that rhubarb as well..so enjoy it !! Take care~ Smile@@smurfy~style

I have almond trees, fig trees and peach trees here!!!! Nothing else grows here unless you put in raised beds and fence them top to bottom! We have lots of bunnies and squirrels who just love the extra treats so we try our best not to let them have too many so they won't invite their entire families! LOL
We tried several gardens but the wild birds got what the critters didn't so we have pretty much given up on a house garden for now. I do have tomatoes growing and got our first 3 yummy ripe babies off the plant just the other day! We had grape vines but the bunnies eat those to the ground in an afternoon! The blackberries didn't make it thru the winter so I may pass on replanting those. Can't grow rhubarb here! Grew up on it though. The tough stuff at the grocery store isn't worth the cash either! Some day we will move to where we will be able to have a nice garden again. Last yr we planted a bag of wild birdseed and had great success with that but we still shared a great deal of it with the wild critters. I don't mind sharing but enough is enough and they don't seem to know that we grow that stuff for ourselves too! They think it's been planted entirely for them!
Got to love em!

Hahaha,,,I here ya hon.....its tough..BUT if you live in California...you should be able to plant herbs & such just as we do in Florida....you have to remember that you DO have the weather in your favor....So don't give up hon....check out some of the TREE'S that the birds are adaptable to. Simply do a search and you will find oodles of trees your birds will love...As I have here in Florida, the Areca Palms are playful for them, BottleBrush trees are really LOVED by many birds amongst the (Seneagals & Ducorps Cockatoo) which is what I have.They just love the intoduction of new things.... Especially my Ducorps ,TIKI. TIKI has been a very delicate & poor eater since I raised TIKI from a baby...I swear I don't know what that bird thrives off of...although everymorning TIKI gets Oatmeal & veggies mixed....mmmm TIKI says"YHays Good..HUH?" hahah can't help but love them guys huh?
