Our BE2 free roams around the back yard with our dogs. She's bitten them both when they get in her way so they have a healthy respect for her. She doesn't deliberately aggravate them though and the dogs give her a wide berth too.

Cats have been stupid enough to stick noses in cages and now have a healthy respect for the beak. Having said that I wouldn't trust the younger cat with any of the birds apart from the BE2 who has had a go at her. Our 14yo cat just can't be bothered with it any more and will have a sniff then walk off.

Yes it's controversial with some (what isn't ) but I know that if something does go wrong I won't be bringing my whiney arse here and complaining. I know the risks but I also know my animals better then anyone here does. That goes for all of us here who do make the decision to have birds and other animals out together or not. Make an educated decision and then don't whine if it goes pear shape.

I think it's great that some of you have dogs you can trust around the birds. I have three of the gentlest, friendliest dogs I've ever known, but all three of them will kill wild birds in the yard if they can, so I would never trust them with my birds.

Ha, almost the same thing happened to me. My charlie flew right for our bull mastiff's mouth. The difference is that our dog is way too stupid to not harm something fragile that he's curious about. I'm a dog person but I hate that dog. Anyway, we jumped up and pushed the dog out of the way before any harm was done.
We have five dogs and at first I had to be extremely careful in keeping them seperate but now my birds often fly off their perch in my room and walk into the living room. My dogs know better than to go near them from many whacks on the nose.

I was eating some M&Ms out of one of those small bags and Rio was playing with the bottom of the bag. I didn't think he poked a hole in it but I looked over and he had one in his mouth! Ah! I grabbed it so fast that he didn't break the shell on the candy to get to the chocolate. Good thing I was watching him...don't know how much chocolate it would take to harm a Sun Conure but probably not much!
