No that's not how it works at least with my flock. If I don't take them as soon as I open the cage they will drop it right on the floor right next to the cage. They will go no matter what. The goal is to get them to understand you want them to hold it till you get them there... I keep the play gym right next to the cage. Now if they are on the couch floor or anywhere and they need to go if I don't see the butt shuffle in time they will go. So they are not housebroken like a dog or cat would be it's a matter of getting them to the poop place before they go.. They will still go during the day in their cage too. But they don't like to go in their home which is why just about any time you let them out of the cage after a few hours you will get the bombs away effect... Echo will actually say "Echo poop Good boy"
