any bird only stors out there?

Are there any bird only stores in your area?

Wouldn't that be the best of both worlds?
You have the advantage of buying directly from the breeder and the convenience of a retail store.

We had one about 100 mi from here but the lady that owned it retired.

I was wondering just how many of them were out there and if anyone here was a breeder with a retail storefront.

There are five bird only stores in my area....kinda six. The one that sells baby parrots is a HORRIBLE store - I mean, it literally has birds that look like they are dying, and once they had a macaw in an 18x18 cage (I don't know how they fit it in there...). The other stores are awesome, some have a few rescue parrots, others are bird free.

I'm in Minneapolis, MN for reference.

The one we had was a breeder that sold the birds she bred in her aviary.
She did take a few rescues every now and then.

It was a tiny store with cages everywhere but they all seemed to be healthy.

I've got one bird store in the area... however, I don't know if the owner breeds. It's a great store, I love it, good prices, and I get to see a variety of birds! However, most their income on birds comes from boarding probably, since they board a lot of birds. They also handraise, however I tend to see more boarders than birds being sold (and they do sell quite a few! with waiting lists for some species!). It's not a big store, and doesn't have a lot of variety. Although prices are usually better than the regular petstores, I've been in other birdstores that had cheaper products (but then those products probably were not shipped as far to those stores as it is to this one). Regardless of that fact, I do get discounts at the store for being a member of the local bird club.

We have one little store here that has a bird/hamster area. they have this poor Cockatoo that has been there since I was very small. He sits in this tiny cage with not a single toy with him and has one perch. He will say "hello C.J." if you walk up to him. Its sickening, breaks my heart when I see him so I don't go there. I bet the bird has been there for AT LEAST 15 years. I have to drive an hour to get bird food or buy the cheap junk at the grocery store. So yea, my birds get allot of veggies..lol

We've got at least 4 that I know of around me. I really only go to two of them though. My favorite store to visit the birds at has their big bird room and on both sides of the room they have these big long mazanita tree play stands that all of the birds are on. It's awesome because you can interact with all of the big babies at basically the same time. . . . I go there to get my baby macaw fix, lol.
