Calming Chamomile Tea for birds...

The recipe is 1 cup of tea diluted with 4 cups of water. Give for 3 days as the only drinking water and then 2 or 3 times a week along with drinking water. I haven't used this for plucking, but I have for calming before traveling with my quaker. I usually cut the ratios in half since I'm just making it for 1 bird. I believe it can be stored in the frig for a week.
I got this recipe from someone about 6 yrs ago and have used it on occaision and it does work. Thought I'd pass it on.

Oooops, almost forgot to give you the recipe, LOL.
1 Chamomile tea bag and one coffee cup boiling water. Steep for 5-6 min. cool and dilute with the 4 cups water. Feed as regular water and refridgerate the balance for up to a week.

I have a lovely chamomile & honey blend tea... I wonder if this would help my new fid settle in when I bring him home?

Absolutely! Can't hoit!

P.S. is it real honey? I believe we are not to give birds honey. Something about a fungus which can be lethal to them. I'm sure someone else knows what I'm trying to say, LOL.
But if it's just honey flavor, then I would say it's ok.

I think it's just honey flavored. But I didn't think any sort of germ or fungus could grow in honey. Weird!

I tried this for Twiggy's feather butchering. Although it didn't seem to help her with the feathers she got to where she loved *Teatime* and would ask for *Teatime medicine* which meant she wanted me to give her the chamomile tea directly into her beak with a syringe. We did that for several months, until the vet decided we should try something else. It didn't help her feather problem, but we enjoyed our teatime together.

Boy, that girl can sure wrap me around her little foot! di

Chamomile tea also helps to kill off a certain type of bacteria.... I've heard of a different dilution of tea to water.... Well, I do have some chamomile tea, but it's honey vanilla chamomile... my mother couldn't find the "regular" chamomile tea....

OK, don't keep us in suspense, what dilution have you heard?

I had heard a dilution of 1 part tea to 2 parts water. Also have heard 1 part tea to 5 parts water...

I had given Noel the 1:2 ratio, with 1/2 cup more water for two days though and no problems. I can't remember where I had heard the 1:2 ratio and can't find it anymore, either!

I had my mother buy the tea for Noel and me, though can't say if it's helping either of us! Once I run out though, I plan on getting the regular kind. I'm just glad that neither Casey or Noel have tried taking a bath in it as that would have been messy!

With honey, I believe its not to feed it to infants as their immune system is not strong enough to fight off the spores that is in it.

Intresting, as I didn't know it applies to birds...

Learned something new...

Then why do they have honey treat sticks?

Honey can actually help fight bacteria, build immune system, and of course provide energy. It would probably be best however to buy raw honey from a healthfood store. As far as how much this actually applies to parrots, I am not too sure...
