Red face Cockatiel Question

Hi There,

My sister and I are looking to buy a cockatiel, and I did a little research online and in a few books, and I noticed a few references that said it is best to get 2 cockatiels so that they will have the company of each other. I called a local breeder to see if they had any available, and she told me that it is best to only get 1, so that it bonds with you, instead of with each other. Do any of you have any info on this? Also, can anyone recommend any good places to buy a bird around Buffalo, NY?

Thank you!
Jen

As Blake suggested it is better to get one at first so that he will bond with you. I have 2 tiels, but they were gotten about 6 months apart. We waited until the first one had bonded with us before getting another.

The only time you want to get 2 birds of the same species at the same time is if you are creating an aviary where all the birds will have a natural like habitat or you intend to breed.

Good luck on your search. Tiels make wonderful companions. They are cuddly, talkative and loyal.
