Get a small pet carrier, put a blanket in the bottom. Keep it covered so he will stay warm. Bring some water and someone who can hold the carrier and keep him company on the drive home. Could thrash about in a cage that large in a vehicle and hurt himself. Congrats... you are going to love him/her. I will be honest, he looks older than four months old. I say that because the feet are pink. They are born with grey feet. Their feet usually dont start turning pink until they are about six months old. Unless this one was an early bloomer? LOL

Let us know how it works out with the blue crown conure. They are great birds.
Another wonderful conure is the nanday. They tend to like me quite a bit and I them so I might be biased. Once in a pet store one who was hiding way up in the rafters, flew down to hang out on me. I've had to snuggle nearly everyone I meet. Another time, at an aviary one of the baby nandays was so enamored with me that he took his first flight to land on my shoulder where he also had his first perch. They usually stay sweet long into adulthood. Mine did.

Hi guys -

I'm supposed to go see the bird tomorrow - it is a 2.5 hour drive, so I am planning on taking him unless there is something wrong.

However, I heard from bird owner today - she has been a little clipped in her responses, and after I asked who the breeder was and if the bird had any health clearances or vet checks, she said that the bird is from a hobby breeder, not a professional, that if I was looking for that stuff I should go to a shop or professional, but that I should plan on paying twice as much.
Now, I sort of feel it's almost a rescue - but I also am getting a bargain ($400 for cage and bird and food and toys). I also am feeling impatient and don't want to wait 4 or 5 months if I can get a 4 month old now.

Can you guys look at the pic and tell if this is a relatively healthy looking guy? This owner is really sort of hacking me off with her attitude. But- I know I can give him a good home and bring him tomorrow - she posted this ad through a general classified ad - so probably bird folks aren't the others looking at the bird. If the bird "looks" healthy, what is the worst case scenario? I have no other birds at home to worry about anything infectious. Should I just slow down and wait for my local shop/breeder to get one in the Spring?

Wheres the Photo? If you have no other birds to worry about, then I would wait and see how you feel when you go and see the bird. As far as the ladys attitude...it could be attributed to lots of things. She could just very well need the money or something like that.

Go meet him and if you think you are right for him then so be it. Just because you go there you are NOT forced to buy him if you don't feel right about it. I know a person can kind of feel pressured when he or she goes to see the bird but don't. Do whatever you want not what she wants. Try to concentrate on him not on the woman. Do what feels right to you. Try not to let others influence your decision. Here I am giving you advise then saying don't let others have influence...sorry, lol.

Well, I've had a couple of exchanges with the current owner - and I think it's just not going to work out. There is something very wrong here, and I can't put my finger on it. Maybe she'll reach out later in the week, but for now I'm changing my focus to a Patagonian Conure nearby. Given that, I think I'll open a new thread on the Conure page to get more advice.

Thanks so much to all - I'm really looking forward to being part of these boards.

We got our half moon at 4 months. I think it's a great age.

We recently turned down a green cheek because the person insisted that we take the bird if we meet the bird. They said it was a "good deal" and we should just take him. We didn't go look him even though he sounded great because it made me nervous that they were so pushy.

I personally don't believe in "good deals" when it comes to pets. If the bird isn't right for you and/or your family then no one will be happy so in the end it didn't really matter how much the bird cost. Follow your heart and if the bird really likes you, you really like him, and he looks healthy then go for it. Make sure to see an avian vet to check for things that are not visible.
