Bee bee is just a nickname that used to just apply to orange-chinned parakeets. It later became common to call canary-winged and other brotogeris bee bee parrots.

Link shows a 1930's ad for a Bee Bee parrot (Orange-chinned parakeet, aka the Tovi parakeet):

Canary-winged parakeets are great little parrots. Amazing little personalities. I feel the same way about my broto, Pickle (golden-winged parakeet). He's not much bigger than a lovebird but he is ALL parrot.

I do hope that you're able to get another canary-winged parakeet, Hobbit! Don't hesitate to contact Shady Pines if you have any questions, even if you're not in a place to get one right now :)

Beetle, Peach-faced lovebird (agapornis). 8/6/05 - 8/28/07. Always in my heart.

Oh, yes -- brotos are little trouble makers... and little sweethearts, too! Pickle (my golden-wing) is fairly well behaved, all things considered ;) He's a piglet, too: LOVES to dunk his food while he's eating. SUCH a mess but funny to watch.

I did see the ad on Petfinder for 2 canary-wings in TX (advertised as BeeBees). There is also a canary-winged available in WI.

Here's a cute clip of a canary-winged parakeet from YouTube:

Brotos are indeed a great species of parrot to have. Pickle, my golden-wing, is proving to be a great apartment parrot. Sure, he can get vocal but it's rather infrequent and not much louder than a cockatiel or lovebird. I live above a funeral home and none of the directors or families has ever mentioned hearing him.

I do hope that you get a canary-winged soon as it's quite clear that you're smitten with the species. With luck, you'll find one within driving distance of your home but if you can't, Shady Pines is really great. They'll do their best to match you up with the right bird :)

Ya really think so Merlin was never a problem with noise, unless I was hung over n late with breakfast. was free flighted n would fly in to wake me then the cats would join in n the other birds. He wasn't a talker persay but had the cadice of speech, if you know what i mean
