Sign of trouble (of my bird with Gout)

I don't know how well you can see this, but in hte lower foot you can make out pink patches and a 'shiny-ness' that is lacking in the upper foot. This was the indication that she was favoring one foot over hte other, due to pain from gout. I also tried to catch a picture of her walking, so you could see the curled foot, but she won't stay still long enough :-) Other signs of gout- sometimes she would nip and 'snarl' at a foot, because she doens't understand the source of pain. She also had a decrease in wanting to walk and play on the floor. Just wanted to share, thanks

As someone who has three minis, thanks for posting this. I certainly hope your little one is home and feeling better.

Poor baby, thanks for sharing the information. Cold pressed, unsweetened black cherry juice from a healthfood store is what docs recommend for peeps. It works with fids as well.

Any updates???? Just wondering if you've made any changes to the diet, added any rope perches to her cage, or anything else??? I assume she's still on meds? What meds was she put on?

hello Monica!

Update from Bebe- she is taking pain meds once a day, but she is still favoring the one foot. To help her not get dehydrated I give her carrot juice or acai juice every day. I think she is doing OK, but I can tell she is frustrated with her situation. Poor little girl!

I hope that she gets better soon! That was very smart to use the juice to get fluids into her!
