Unhappy Dealing with a loss?

this afternoon around 4pm out little budgie lady passed away. we have no idea how this happened. i was in the room watching t.v and she was fine. she was playing, eating, and singing away. i walked out of the room for 40 minutes and when i returned she was at the bottom of the cage with her wings and tail spread out. i thought she was dead so i picked her up. she was barly alive with her neck extended and wing spread out. i held her close to me for around 5 minutes to see if she would respong since she was blinking but had a low breathing rate. after 5 minutes she stiffed up and passed away in my hands. the question is how is my cockatiel petrie going to deal with this. they were both best friends. when they were out she would follow him. if she didnt he would call to her and go back to her to make sure she was comming. they were insperable when they were out of the cage. petrie did not witness any of this today since he was asleep in the tom covered part of his cage. now how is petrie going to react to not having her around. oh i feel so bad for him. lady was my little brothers bird. he was sad and crying like crazy of her death. iv decided to give him petrie since we still live in the same home and petrie is finger trained and can step up and listen to most commands. im probly going to get myself a GCC conure since i'v been in love with them since my last GCC. im sorry for this being so long but has anyone experienced sudden deaths with budgies and also how have your birds reacted to deaths among there flock members.

((((HUGS))))

I'm very sorry to read about Lady the budgie passing away. Had she been showing any signs or symptoms of illness? Do you know how old she was?

I don't mean to sound insensitive but please consider having a necropsy done on Lady... or at the very least, speak to your veterinarian about having Petrie examined and tested. Just as a precaution for HIS well-being and that of any other parrot that you may bring into your life.

I would try to spend some extra time with Petrie and as weird as it may sound, gently explain to him that Lady won't be back.

Best wishes and kind thoughts.

I am so sorry for your loss, it's heart breaking to lose one of out babies. Yes Petrie is going to miss his friend. They bond deeply. I'm trying to give extra attention to a surviving mate of one of my cockatiels that I lost back in December. My prayers are with you and Petrie

I am very sorry for your loss.

I am a little concerned that you posted recently a concern about Petrie's poop and within a few days your parakeet passed away. If you choose not to do a necropsy on your parakeet then please take Petrie to the vet to be examined.

Oh sweetie, I am so sorry. Tell your little brother we are thinking about him. Anyway, I'm gald you were there to at least hold her in her last moments. Petrie will adjust, slowly, but he will adjust. I would definately get Petrie checked just in case. You know all the ins and out of fids and precautions, so this is strange. Maybe she had a heart attack. Find out what is going on before you get your CAG LOL!

I am so sorry for your loss. One year old is so young. You and Petrie still have each other.

I know, I know but I remember a certain young man being absolutely smitten with a CAG!

Honestly, you will not be dissapointed with a GCC, my Black Capped (same size etc..) is the love of my life. I wouldn't trade him for any other type of Parrot in the world!
