Our Dream/Experiment is at an end.

I am fairly new to the board, but from my posts on pet shops, many of you know that my wife and I own a small shop in NC. We have for various reasons, decided to close the shop at the end of May. This was a difficult decision as providing a quality pet shop when so few are available, was one of our dreams for more than 20 years. We have decided to pursue in its place, our other dream of owning a small farm and keeping a couple of horses along with our growing feathered family. Please wish us luck with our new adventure.

I have four parrots at the store I am concerned about placing and although I will not adopt them out for free, I will price them very reasonably to those who would give them an excellent home. They are a B&G Macaw (I am considering keeping her), A BF Amazon and 2 Male Red-sided Eclectus. Please email me at dyeman@shelby.net if you are interested.

I still plan to breed the 7 pairs of smaller bird I have once we move, birds were what I loved most about being involved in the pet store anyway.

I wish you luck with your new adventure. My house is full to the top with fids so I can't possibly even consider another one, as tempting as the amazon is.............
Best of luck to you!

Live well and prosper. I think its near impossible to run a quality pet shop and still not starve to death. That's why there are so many bad ones and so few good ones. I wish I could make an offer for the BG, but I love my husband and would like for him to stay HERE with me. He'd leave if I dragged another one home.

Are you selling any cages or other bird gear? If so, let us know what you have.

Good luck. I know you'll be just fine. And, please stay on the board.

Scott,

I am sorry to hear that a good store is closing. But, I wish you and your family much happiness in your new adventure. My husband will envey you. His dream is to have a place with some land to have some rescued horses and I would like to take in some resucued parrots. Please stay with us here at the board and keep us up on how things are going.

Mela,

The Blue Front is 10 months old, he was hand fed by my wife and I. He is not a touchy feely bird, he will allow me to stroke his back, but he obviously gets no pleasure from it. He is already talking if that is important to you. As far as handling without petting, he will " step up" for anyone. I feel that in a home environment, he will be more receptive to some petting and scritches than he is now.

Y'all might want to consider moving down south. Real estate is much cheaper and you might be able to realize your dream.

Regarding staying on the board, I never thought of leaving. I will still be very involved in my birds, and I learn quite a bit here.

Scott,
I am also sorry to hear of your store. You are so right when you say there are very few quality ones out there. In my 29 years in Birds, it seems most of the good ones do go out rather quickly.
But I wish you and your wife much sucess with your other dream...it sounds wonderful.
I know most southern states vaccinate thier birds for polyoma, are your guys vaccinated?
I was wondering bout the Macaw. :aiwebs_01

you can email me if you want..........
