The end result is going to be the same either way the bird is rehomed and they have a new dog whether they got it from a trade or from the cash they received for selling the bird. Not every household holds the same values toward their animals as the people on this board do. My heart breaks when I see ads at work for people wanting to rehome their dog that they have had for 10 years because their new landlord wont allow pets! That poor animal has been with that family for all of its long life and they can just toss it to the side. Thats a crock of crap to me, dont move into the house! Keep looking until you find one that is pet friendly. Thats how I would do it and have been doing it for 20 years. Id rather live in my car until the right place turned up rather than live without my dogs. Not everyone thinks of their birds, dogs cats etc as part of their family. To some people it is just a bartering system. Just wait till the chihuaha grows up and aint so cute anymore, wonder what they will swap it for next?? A playstation??
I totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I worked in a shelter for years and I had many people drop off animals they had had for years for many stupid reasons, those animals were so depressed, did those people care, most of them not at all.

I am pretty sure we can all have a different opinion, that is sort of how the world goes.

Would be nice but not realistic, never gonna be the norm.

There is going to be an explosion of birds being rehomed due to the economy. For many it is going to come down to "get what I can for the bird, I need to put food on the table".

Too many are quick to judge. Those that are I hope you never run into a tough situation.

You guys do realize that we currently have members on this board that are struggling to keep their birds right? Are you going to turn on them if they have to place a bird and the $ is an issue?

Think about that.

Well then you can imagine what I really wanted to say!

Letting the smiley take the hit saved Kevin a ton of PM's complaining.

To sell your bird to eat or to trade your bird for a dog? Well I would think that is a totally different situation. Why cant we just disagree? I respect your opinion, I just dont happen to agree.

I agree they are different but at the same time they are the same. Rehoming a bird.

How do you know they don't have a deal worked out for oh...a new engine for their only mode of transportation...the cost is $1000 or a chi pup???

Probably a long shot but you don't know.

Having a different opinion is fine as long as you can support it. Provide enough support and I might adapt to it.

In this case that didn't happen. Besides, the initial comment to Lori was pretty rude so I'd have to say that comment instigated the smiley.

Your absolutely right, I have no idea what they have worked out but I have been in the animal world long enough that I have seen so much awful crap that I get annoyed with people. Like the people that dump the adult dog at the shelter and head to to the puppy room to adopt. It gets to ya after a while, to see the way animals are treated!
