Who uses a dremel

Who uses a dremel to do their birds nails?

What attachment do you use? What speed?

I do my birds nails but I use clippers right now, but I would like to use a dremel since the clippers still leaves a sharp end. I just want to make sure I use the correct attachment and speed.

Thanks for any advice

I use a dremel on my birds nails and beak! I usually used around number 2-4 setting.

make sure you dont hold the dremmel in one spot too long. it will cause a burning sensation like a match to your skin. i have used them over the past 20 years or so as a manicurist. personally, i didnt want to use them on my birds for that reason. I know how quickly they can hurt.

I've used a little portable battery powered nail dremel that doesn't go very fast on my grey but generally I just use a nail file so I can round off the tips. I might keep a dremel on hand as a weapon for when my U2 tries to kill me for filing his nails though.

I use a small rechargeable on High speed ( I have years of exp though) and a Medium sand paper wheel - not a stone. It works faster therefore less stress. There are two diameters in sandpaper wheels I use the narrow on birds the wide on dogs. The outer paper wheel is replaceable if you use a fresh one you dont have to hold long - just touch and go, touch and go. You must have the proper bit to hold these wheels.

Thanks, I use a dremel for my woodworking and my model trains, but have nevered used it on the birds or dogs. Myabe I will try the clippers and an emery board first and if I don't get results I will try the dremel very carefully. I don't want to hurt them. Thanks for your input.

I also use a small wireless on high. I do use a stone. No bleeding. My U2 has no problem with it. (I wrap them both in a towel as they will go after dremel, or me, if they can). Grey has never liked nail trimmings period, nonetheless so far this seems more effectiveon U2, CAG takes some work. Both rescues I volunteered at used dremels for nails and beak. I've also visited several vets that use dremels because they tend to be more effective, better trim faster, and supposedly less stress.

Good luck.

the reason I use the sandpaper wheel over the stone as expirience has shown me it causes less vibration against the nail or beak.
