Toy Poodle & Princess of Wales Parakeet

Hello...on a recent trip to PetSmart a 9 month male Princess of Wales Parakeet spotted my husband and it's been love ever since. We revisited several times and each time the parakeet greeted him with dances and chirps and would follow him around his cage. On our last visit we were formally introduced to the bird and 20 minutes of nose kissing, petting, chirping and talking ensued. My concern however is that we have a toy poodle at home that is very demanding of my attention and jealous of any interactions we have with others. He is also not particularly friendly with other dogs and the squirel who visits the backyard is his arch enemy. On the other hand he is gentle and loving with our Lhasa Apso but she is older and very relaxed. I would never want to put the bird in danger. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Your thoughts/advise is much appreciated!

yep, I come from a family who has always had poodles.
In fact, our white one's father was on the cover of the poodle book in the day.
most of our poodles were ok with my birds growing up. we did have one that was trained to attack on command(if you can believe that...but she DID!)
she never hurt my birds, BUT did kill a duck one time....I was horrified(and about 7 years old)but she was set off with the command word by someone who didnt know.
Because Poodles were originally hunting dogs, It was a concern of mine. While I would like to have another, I dont think I would ever chance it. Not with having my Emma who is disabled and lands on the floor alot.
If you have jealous high strung dog, you might want to reconsider, or have extra precautions in place as I did growing up around birds and hunting dogs.

I have a to keep an eye on my huskies when the birds are out... usually the huskies are OUTSIDE when the birds are out. My collie/ heeler is fine with the birds though. He's trained to be gentle... to move away from the birds when they go near him. Poodles are smart enough to be trained not to go near the bird.
