Unhappy Baby, my Jenday Conure

This morning my Jenday Conure tried to attack my terrier and he lost, Baby, Conures name, seems to be doing okay. His leg is broken. I consulted a avairian vet online. I was told to take him to a vet...duh I live in rural Arkansas and I know there is no one to whom I can go. I have taped his leg up and hope it works..any help will be truly appreciated.
Thanks, Georgia Karen

WOW, I would be flipping out. I would do a google search for the nearest vet of any kind. If his leg doesnt mend properly he may not be able to perch properly for the rest of his life. If you cant find one call a vet and tell them your situation and see if they can walk you through how to cast it.

Get him to a vet, even if you have to drive for hours. You made a commitment when buying this birdy... he needs professional help. Birds can die from shock and also there can be some nasty bacteria in dog saliva that may be slowly killing your bird... same as unseen internal injuries :( Please please get him to a vet.

Your bird needs help. He needs pain medication, to be checked for internal injuries, no perches, flat place to stay.

As much of a problem as it may be to get to an avian vet, he needs to go. His life depends on it.

If money is an issue, you can probably work out a payment plan.

Good Luck.

TAKE BABY TO A VET. Any vet! Find someone who will help. This should not be left :c
I really don't think there'd be any question about it if it was your leg that was broken. Even if you're in a rural area, drive for a few hours if need be. Your baby is in incredible pain, and there may be damage you can't see.

My heart goes out to you, and I send my best wishes. I agree with others that you owe it to your bird to get him to a vet. I have to say, the "duh" comment you made sounded a bit flippant to me and made it sound like you don't care much about the pain your bird is in.

Unfortunately, this just reinforces my belief that birds should NEVER be out of their cages if there is a dog in the house. Even if you trust the dog, they are natural predators and birds are natural prey.

hate to sound like a chorus member, but I agree. Any vet,in this case, is better than none and I have no doubt that even in rural Arkansas, there has got to be people who have dogs and cats.
Hope your little guy mends well....
Always, always, always watch birds around any other animals...so many horror stories.

Georgia,

I have to drive over 3 hours to a really good avian vet. There are a couple others here that treat birds, but I'd drive the 3 hours. Please take your baby to a vet, it could cause many problems down the road, not to mention the pain he's going through.

There, I've finished my solo to the chorus. Good luck and best wishes for your baby's quick recovery.
