to pluck or not to pluck (help!)

A few weeks ago we had to move to a new vet because our old one left her practice. That same week Bea broke a blood feather and we took her to this new and unfamiliar vet. He told us the feather was only traumatized and didn't need to be pulled, but I vaguely remember my old vet telling me otherwise. The feather was bleeding but the blood clotted quickly, so we assumed it was harmless. However, today at work my boss taught me how to cut nails, pull blood feathers, etc. She told me that a broken blood feather MUST be pulled, otherwise it will get infected.
Who do I believe? I'm worried it might get infected and she could get some kind of disease, but now I don't even know which feather was broken/hurt. Should I locate it and have it pulled or just leave it be? Is this safe?

It is not always necessary to pull blood feathers and if the bleeding stopped it is best to leave it. Pulling blood feathers can cause feather follicle damage.
