Humphrey has a new favorite food

Humphrey has a new favorite food: oatmeal. My god, I have never seen her eat anything with such gusto. She ate every single tiny bit I gave her, not one tiny piece remained, and she's currently pecking around, looking for more. I can't believe I never offered it to her before, but I just made a bowl for myself, and she came over with that "whatcha eatin'?" look on her face.

My question: Is it ok to give it to her? How frequently? I made it with water, but usually I make it with milk. Should I make it for Humph with water only?

Many thanks,
Michele and Humph

I am always trying to get Worple to try new foods but he is never very interested. So far he likes broccoli, apples, tomatoes and toast (my son gives him a very very small piece of his in the morning).

When you say oatmeal is that porridge? I will have to try Worple on it is Humph loves it so much.

Several of my 'zons love oatmeal and my sister's DYH holds his own spoon to eat it. There's nothing wrong with feeding it to them. About the milk, I'm no expert but it probably doesn't have enough in it to do any harm. Sis and I make ours with water.

Michele, I bought a bird cookbook and oatmeal is in it so I am assuming it is ok. Haven't tried it yet. If he likes it with water, I would just skip the milk. Glad to hear he likes it. Maybe you could try mixing in some fruit with it.

Thanks everyone! I'm glad to be able to give her something she likes so much. She really likes bland things best - rice, oatmeal, couscous, bread crusts. Anything with major flavor she's not interested.

Melster, yes I mean porridge - I used the American term because there are mostly Americans on this board. I forgot you're in England too, not too far from me! (Southeast England). How is Worple's molt, by the way? Humphrey is an incredibly pick eater, too. She was a seed junkie when I got her, given seed only. Addicts are never totally cured, as we know! Seed is still her favorite, but she will eat apple, carrot and strawberry, in additon to the foods I listed above. I have very little luck getting her to eat other food. Tomatoes? She turns her beak up.

Smallonion, Worple's molt is much better thanks but he is still a bit nippy. He seems much happier though so lets hope he stops biting soon.

I am off to buy some oatmeal once I have picked the kids up from school. I will let you know how it goes.

Oops forgot to say that Worple also likes the odd grape. I have just cut up some orange and grapes and put them in his bowl. He has left the orange but has had a little bit of the grape!

All of mine love oatmeal - and on cold winter nights they get it as a bedtime snack. I usually use soy milk and bananas to mix with it - but also have added blueberries, cinnamon, or cranberries depending on what I have around. I feed it from a spoon - and Maia will do her baby head bopping dance. So cute.

I usually use water to cook it and then cool it down with apple juice or papaya juice. Mine like it too.
