Well well well lol when I was a kid I grew up in Florida and we had wild blue jay's at my grandparents house that would eat peanuts out of our hands! They would come when you called them and eat the peanuts every day! I loved it. I actually have a picture framed of one of the times! I was probuably about 8 or 9. I had a childhood friend that had parrots and whenever I went over there I loved ineracting with them! Then in high school I got 2 parakeets then I rescued 2 lovebirds so it was crazy in my bedroom lol and well it took all this time in my adult life now I am a crazy 27 year old bird lady lol!

I remember when I first fell in love with birds! All the time I was growing up, my Nana had Cockatiels and Parakeets. (Mostly the 'tiels) She had a couple Squeaky's, an Adam (who turned out to be a girl), and a couple others. Because I grew up with them, I grew to love them.

A few years after Nana passed away and my Mom was re-married, she got me Skittles. Skittles was very cranky and it took me months for him to sit on my hand, and a little big longer until I got him out of his biting stage. A year later she bought me Sunny for my birthday. Now they're brothers and they love each other so much that you can't seperate them. Now I have Freckles, who is a Mama's girl.

Thanks to my Nana I love and cherish birds and can't imagine my life without them.

I had a budgie when I was about 4, and found a cockatiel when I was 9... but the first time i actually went and bought my cockatiel- Peanut was something special and got me hooked on birdies. However, Ashling seems to have taught me most, and I actively researched everything possible on birds in every spare moment I had since getting her. Also my love of Ravens, science, in particular biology, nature, bird anatomical structure, feathers and flight have contributed to my obsession haha.

My husband has always been a bird lover. I have always been a little afraid of them. When I was about 10 years old my cousin had a tame crow. He came to the community tame. A little blonde headed boy kicked the crow and hurt its leg. My cousin nursed him back to health but every time the crow saw me he would fly down a flog my blonde head. It terrified me. Our first bird was a white dove who had retired from doing magic shows. Nikki was very sweet so that helped me start to get over my fear. We are now proud parronts of a quaker, a severe mccaw and two very sweet cockatiels.

I grew up in a small town, Mallacoota in Victoria, which is fairly well-known for its' great birdwatching... there's over 300 species there, and I was always surrounded by them... They fascinated me :}

When I was a little girl, my mom was ALWAYS rescuing some sort of bird that had fallen out of it's nest or something. Once we had a baby Raven that lived in our back Veranda (screened in) for an entire season because early in Spring it had fallen out of it's nest, broken it's wing and been abandoned. My mom picked it up, wrapped it's wing, and nursed it back to health. EVERY morning and night, there was my mom, digging up our backyard looking for worms and grubs (much to the disgust of my father). She taught the Raven to fly and in the Fall, she released it, all fat and healthy and fully flighted. She's done that for Robins and Blue Jays too.

We always had Budgies growing up, nothing bigger.

Even now, my mom (and dad who live in "cottage country" on a lake) keeps binoculars and a bird book handy and is always "looking"... and she collects bird figurines, etc.

And she goes NUTS on my birds when she visits...

I guess I got it from her.

A TAG by the name of Wilbur and a pair of budgies, followed by Sebastian 25 years ago started it for me. Now, on my own, I have my own CAG and two budgies!

I can't talk about this without crying.....

For me, it was basically a stranger;
Gene was a beautiful lady & a parront to 3 fids.

She took quite a few of her final moments to show this sorry walking animal encyclopedia the real side of exotic birds. I'm so very glad for that chance meeting & the friendship that emerged from it.

She passed away in Oct/06 & I miss her greatly.
