I would be interested in seeing that. However, the problems with these types of "documentaries" is that they are completely skewed to one viewpoint and don't even bother addressing the other side of the story. That is what makes them so dangerous. A lot of people will take everything that is said as fact without even bothering to check it out for themselves.

I was reading a thread earlier on this book. It was so highly recommended, I have ordered the book. I'm so excited on getting it, I can hardly wait.

I'm not too interested in a movie, they always seem to drift away from what the book really is trying to say.

I've read "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill" by Mark Bittner. I've also seen the movie. I cannot say that the movie strayed from the book... I hope the same applies for "Of Parrots and People" although they'll have to be using actors to protect the identity of some people so it will be different in it's own right.

Personally, I feel everyone sees the good side of keeping and breeding parrots, so we already *KNOW* it.... but hardly anyone knows the bad side. Therefore, the movie will be a *GOOD* thing, but some people are surely going to take it too closely to heart and do something stupid....

This book is not a work of fiction. It is a non fiction work written by an investigative journalist. I found it to be a very insightful look at many aspects of the welfare of parrots from life in the wild, the international trade in wildlife, quarantine stations, breeding, rescue, and life in the home.

All of these things are relevant on an international scale. Parrots are in fact, the most endangered group of birds in the world. They are also a growing sector of the pet population. We all know and accept that millions of dogs and cats are euthanized (a misnomer in most cases) in this country every year while breeding goes on on a scale that society can not handle. We would do well to understand that like cats and dogs, this occurs with parrots as well. That is also fact.

We have only to look at the "MBS" trend in parrot keeping and how that happens to know that while you might purchase your first parrot, someone probably gave you at least one or two of the multiples in your home. Why do you think that is?

It is important as parrot-lovers, that we learn about all issues relating to parrots. It was a great book! Read it first, then comment on it.

I did read the book. While much of it seemed very factual, the author made me feel as if she had an agenda. She reminded me of that other documentarian michael moore.
