zebra finches

i wonder if theres any body out there who could give me some help,
ive got a pair of breeding zebra finches, she layed two eggs at the mo, but the pair of them keep putting lettice, carrot, an what ever else they can find in the nest, will this harm the eggs in any way.
this is the first time for me with this sort of bird,
