My conure's mess

I posted earlier concerning the mess my conure has been making as of late. As soon as he gets out of the cage, there is bird poop everywhere. No matter where he goes, it is the first thing he does. I try to leave him on top of his cage to do his business, but he waits for me to pick him up. I am at a loss as to what to do. Is this just something i need to expect in the future? Is this just a hopeless cause? I just dont know how to handle this as he is ruining furniture, clothes and the carpet. I have read articles on bird diapers, is this what I am to resort to at this point. This bird is my companion and I love everything about him. This problem is turning into a huge mess. Is there any hope?
