Unhappy My dog- Homie.

Hey everyone, I know this isn't about birds, but I really need some support and awnsers here. We rescued my dog homie off the highway as a puppy, and he had mange. His hair was starting to grow back and look better until about 2 weeks ago. He is very hyper and hard to take care of, not to mention his crazy skin disease. In the past two weeks he has started to become very agressive towards other family members. He has tried to bite 2 members in my family twice in one week. Now I don't know if this is due to depression or anxiety from his disease or what, but we just can't have a biting dog around with a 3 year old. I am going to contact a local rescue soon and talk it over with one of the leaders. His poop has also started to get very soft. I can't afford to have tests run right now, but it will really hurt if I have to see him leave. If anyone has had expirences like this please help me, BTW I might need some support

How old is your dog? How long have you had him? Have you ever taken him to the vet? We also rescued our dog...she was abandoned in the woods when she was only 4mos old...she did not have mange but she was malnurished and has a collar embedded in her neck...she was outgrowing it and it was strangling her. We had to take really good care of her skin around her neck wound...the vet bills added up for a while but the vets took payments...she is a WONDERFUL dog and a valued member of our family now. She is very loving and actually seems as grateful to have us as much as we are to have her. Good Luck with your dog.

My parent's dog had been diagnosed with mange then later the diagnosis changed to fleas. Take your dog to the vet.

Biting is the one thing a dog cannot do, and you absolutely cannot keep a dog that will bite. Even without kids.

Put him down voluntarily, no matter how much it hurts, or you will face greater pain later on when you are forced to do so. Lawsuits are no picnic either.

You gave this dog a much better chance than he would've gotten otherwise, but if you can't trust him 100% ... he's got to go. Sorry.

I agree with most of the others. I don't have a dog, never did but IMO I would get him the necessary vet care that he needs and pay it in payments if you must. Wouldn't you maybe bite if you were sick/suffering? Check into what Jodi said also, I would never put an animal "down" if it had any chance of recovery, either with you or with someone else. Best of luck to you & especially the dog.

Somewhat good news! I found a local humaine society that can treat him for as little as $10! I am going to set up an appointment asap. He hasn't tried to bite ME yet, but someone else in the family. I will keep you updated on his conditions.

If he sees you as "pack leader", he will never try to bite you. Anybody else, unfortunately, is another matter.

Don't just take my word for it ... I urge you to talk to someone at the Humane Society (or another pro) about your dog's aggressive behavior before it's too late.

He is a sweet dog, just maybe a little mad at the time. Since the incident he has been nothing but sweet... So tommorow we start treatment.
