Here's a Plan for PDD Research

I must say, I have the smartest friends on my forum. Today, Jan, one of my personal favorites, suggested that perhaps I should write a letter to Jimmy Buffet and appeal to him to help raise some funds. Well, that sounded good but THIS sounded even better:

LET'S ALL WRITE TO JIMMY AND PLEA FOR HIS HELP

I'll try to get an address. The worst that can happen is that he'll say "NO". Hey, I promote his restaurant all the time, I drink his tropical drinks, eat his cheeseburgers and spend money every week. Perhaps simply reminding him of how he "raised" your consciousness about parrots in the first place might make him get on board.

I'll try to get his address. PLEASE support this cause.

I think that everyone really needs to educate themselves about the fund raising and history of this disease. Please go to:

http://www.stoppdd.org/

It explains what you can do. Just remember, when you discover your sick bird and come to the board begging for help, how badly you're gonna feel when I and others like me have to simply say "there is no cure." You CAN make a difference. Quit smoking, put that money in a jar and send off a check for whatever save. The next time you go to the grocery store and use merchant coupons, put that money aside and do the same thing. I know that on any given month, I find at least $5 in the washer and dryer. I've been saving that for 2 years now and sending off contributions. Hell, I don't even miss it!

Just remember. Every single time a deliveryman comes to your door, a neighbors child comes to play with your kids, a friend stops in for coffee, your chances of disease transmission increase. Don't be fooled into thinking that simply keeping your birds locked in your home will protect them. In fact, they will have LESS natural immunity BECAUSE of the lack of exposure to outside pathogens.

Every time you walk into a pet store, animal shelter, bird show, Walk-a-thon, your chances increase. We can't live in glass bubbles.

If you're wondering why I'm so neurotic, let me enlighten you. Those amazing statistics about birds living to be 50, 60 90 years old were based on animals NOT exposed to PBFD, PDD and other CAPTIVE bird diseases. They didn't even exist before. And, we were a far less mobile society. That's all changed now. We'll be lucky if our birds hit the 20 year mark unless we get on the ball NOW.

Send a Check to help StopPDD
Make checks payable to "Avian Health Network, Inc. for StopPDD" and mail to:

Avian Health Network for StopPDD
11654 Plaza America Drive, #245
Reston VA 20190

Every little bit helps. I saw that yesterday.

Thanks,

Nancy

Oh, I quit smoking. That was one of the prerequisites that I set myself before even getting Ruby, and let me tell you that you will not be saving any money at all. :eusa_naug
The money that you do not spend on smokes you more than spend on icecream and chocolate, consequently new wardrobe as well.
But it's the thought that counts huh? lol

Just to make a reminder, Cheeseburgers in Paradise was created and owned by Laren Gartner and Edna Bayliff, and the Cheeseburger Restaurants, Inc. is located in Portola, California. Although I've been to Portola and know it quite well, I have yet to see the headquarters.

Jimmy Buffet has nothing to do with this chain of restaurants although his song, 'Cheeseburgers in Paradise' did inspire the two woman to create the first restaurant with that chosen name, and where else, but in Hawaii??? I have been to the first built restaurunt, and has great food and a great view of the ocean...

As far as PDD research goes, I do hope that the cure will work if they can get all the funded money that they need.

Isn't Jimmy Buffet a singer or something? He isn't well known in Australia. How can he help with PDD research? Are there any really famous celebrities who are known to be bird lovers? I know Oprah is really into dogs, too bad she isn't into birds.

Tiki:

Jimmy Buffet is to rock music what the Beach Boys are to summer music. His songs such as "Wasting Away in Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" have inspired a near cult following. His fans travel all over the country catching his concerts and wearing Parrothead gear, most notably parrot hats. They have clubs, websites and now Jimmy even has a chain of restaurants.

His music is all about the casual, don't give a damn lifestyle in the Florida Keys. Anyway, as fate would have it, one of the girls at the event yesterday remembered that her own brother knew some of his band members. We are trying to get his contact information now. We shall see.

Well - been a real busy day at work today - not!

Been surfing the net - found several celebrity contact sites - but can't access a lot of them due to firewall. But I did find this one - which claims to have a contact address for Jimmy Buffett. I can't do it now - but will join tonight and get the address - already ordered the book on how to contact celebs. I also will look at the other sources provided by google.

Just thought I would let you know I'm looking for info Nancy.

Here's the one I found
