I moved in the winter, so you won't have to worry about some things. I would put them (if possible) in a bathroom until you have a chance to set up their cages. That way they are out of the way and they aren't exposed to all the activity and craziness. Fruits instead of water (which may spill). Favorite goodies for them to help make them happier.

Other than that...I can't think of anything else. Good luck!

Welcome to my "neck of the woods!" :)

Mark your calendar for the next Way Out West Bird Expo, and if you are interested I can point you to an *excellent* avian vet.

during the trip? make sure they have water... depending on the bird, you might want to limit the food to stops - while valo never had a problem, bella would always eat during driving and then throw up all over the place... make sure it doesn't get too hot, have a spray bottle handy to mist them, make sure to have bottled water with you and covers in case you get stuck somewhere. when stopping somewhere, i would probably bring them inside if possible

is that kind of what you were looking for?

thanks for the kind words from all. i am moving to the kingman area. i will need an avian vet for sure, and a good economical pet food store. i am worried about the actual driving time though and how they will handle being in a moving vehicle that long? and what kind of cage to use for the move. obviously they wont be in their usual cages....

Probably pet carriers would work.

You are moving very far from the Phoenix area where I live. I'm afraid our vet is too far away but I will pass on his # if you still want it. As far as food goes, we buy pellets at PetSmart. I have not found any better price locally.

There's a Yahoo group for Arizona bird owners at arizonabirdtalk : Arizona Bird Talk You're not actually in Arizona yet but you're close enough to it that they'd probably let you go ahead and join. There's probably someone there who can give you tips that are relevant to the Kingman area.

There's another one at ArizonaBirdLovers : Arizona Bird Lovers I don't belong to this one so I can't tell you what it's like, but it seems to be very active.

Kingman is relatively cool by Arizona standards (although hotter than Michigan I'm sure). Moving there in the summer isn't as masochistic as moving to somewhere like Phoenix in June.
