I will soon be aquiering a tiel(my first pet bird!)and was wondering about a couple things. I bought food that is a seed/pellet mixture that the store was feeding them. I heard seeds will make a tiel fat, is this true? I also heard they like to open peanut shells and eat the peanuts, is this true and is it ok for them? Also do you have any other treat suggestions or just overall tips for me?

A good diet consists of pellets, some seed and fresh fruits and vegetables. Some people no longer like to feed peanuts for fear of aspergillus flavus. Sun flower seeds can be used as a treat as well as millet.

Thanks we have millet so were good but I saw a foraging toy at the bird store that was meant to have peanuts, so are they ok in moderation because I heard birds get bored unless they can forage for food and I have no foraging toys.Any other treat ideas?
