cats and birds???

Who says that they don't get along. little Lola adores my cat Luna and Luna really doesn't mind it at all. Lola loves to hitch a ride on her back.

I discovered this last night when Lola flew off of my shoulder and right onto the cats back. I wasn't terribly worried because I know Luna is a very laid back cat and doesn't get freaked out or aggressive about anything. She used to be friends with a rat. So I watched them for a minute and when I saw that she really didn't care at all I went to grab my camera to show you all.

Do any of your birds have an odd friendship that just shouldn't be?

My cats and birds aren't friends but they get along well. Henry (rfm) used to follow the cats around the house talking to them. The cats weren't sure what to do because they're used to the birds bullying them.
Pretty girls, you have there. I've heard of birds riding on dogs but not on cats. Too cute!

thats sweet...

im a bit paranoid though.. i dont have any cats.. but if i did.. i wouldnt let my birds out at the same time with the cat in the room..never know when those hunting instincts might kick in.. but nice to see your kitty is so friendly :)..
hmm i think its more i wouldnt let the Budgies out at the same time they are so tiny..but i know the Conure can fend for himself hehe..

i dont know about odd relationship.. but my Jenday Conure Geek.. loves my budgies.. he will go into their cage sometimes to get something like a "Budgie Spa"... where all the little guys go about preening the big guy from head to tail.. even feeding him hehe..

Yeah I would be worried with other cats but this one I don't think even knows she is one. She has always been raised around small animals since she was 4 weeks old and she is now 6 years. And I know how she reacts and this is it.

I know of someone who usually has their cockatoo around cats.. They seem to get along.. I saw a picture and it just cracked me right up. the Cockatoo hanging out with cats.. I would think with proper supervision it's alright, but to be vigilant at all times

yes.. i do think it also really also comes down to how well you know your pet.. i know Geek wouldnt dare touch the smaller birds.. if he got annoyed hed just go back to his cage..

i think being able to read your animals body language and knowing their personality also holds a big key to how far and how llong you can let different species socilize..

That's cute- you're so lucky to have them get along. Is your cat a Maine Coon? Careful of the bacteria in your cat's saliva as it does a lot of damage if it enters the birdies' bodies (via scratch or even just preening the cats fur) I let my dog and lorikeet play for short whiles most nights... Ash won't leave poor Flea alone but he puts up with her :)

Frankly my cat is not a mouser and is "indoors only" so she seems to total ignore the bird - but I know how *fast* cats are when they want to be... I remain suspicious and don't really want to take a chance even when supervised.

Cat's can also carry a bacteria (cat scratch fever - Bartonella) and I'm not sure that I would like a chance that a bird may be infected with this bacteria through play - although the cat would have to scratch the bird to spread the infection.

Cute picture. I would be careful. I lost the smartest Quaker ever, because of a cat. If a cats claw get into the skin of a bird, you will have to get a shot for your bird within 24 hours, or the bird will die. I lost (Sam)Quaker, due to a cat scratch. Its not a pretty site to see. My blue&gold (Charley) got scratched by a wild cat and I got him a shot and everything was fine.

My moms cats are scared of the birds...of course it doesn't help that the parrots chase the cats around, and the dogs for that matter.
