My NYC vet charged around 950 for all the tests, well bird, dna and CBC/fecal bloodwork (I feel your pain girly!). The two vets upstate I use are 150-200 for well bird CBC/fecal bloodwork and about 40 per test for the 4 big diseases and only about 60 for just the well bird exam.

I am glad that your bird recovered. :-)

For the office visit it's 89.00 then on top of that all the testing. I know I pay my vets car payment a couple times a year. I am going in a few weeks with 2 birds and it will be atleast 500.00 for them if not more.

When I took in my tiel and found out she had liver disease that bill ended up at about 1500.00 after all said and done.

I emailed a couple of vets near me recently...

Quote:
Our annual exam cost is $50 and the doctor looks at all aspects of the bird from the heart, choana/chloaca, eyes, ears, nares, body/feather condition etc.. If you would like tests performed (which we recommend doing once yearly) an avian panel-blood work (CBC, Chem) costs $90 and an anaerobic oral/fecal culture costs $50.
Quote:
Well health exams are $49. The doctor looks at feather condition, body condition, the feet, the nose, in the mouth, etc. We do not do bloodwork as part of well health exams unless the doctor finds something that warrants it or the client reuests it. A blood draw and test would be $98. Gram stains are $32.
There are a couple more vets that I was going to ask too.

yep, I'm in the NYC area too. First well birdy runs just shy of $800.00 on a grey.
Just to walk in the door, $149, then once established I think its $114.
Here in NJ, same thing, runs about $149 for initial, 89 there after.

I can see that I'm getting off lightly.

Emergency with Diego (sun conure) which included 5 days staying at the vet with his partner so neither would fret, xrays, antibiotics, nebuliser therapy and pain meds <$500

Emergency surgery for egg bound GCC $260

Health exam for Bogey (YCA)and Arthur (CAG) (visual check and physical check), no bloods - free.

He knows that if I do have concerns that I get the birds straight in, I've referred people to him and I pay my bills straight away.

Lol Astrid! I am blessed that I changed my mind in college to become an english teacher and got my degree in business. I decided that I could not survive on 14k a year, lol.

As for the rest, I was blessed in making some wise business choices, a couple of (now sold) successful business and good investments... though I think everyone has taken quite a severe hit here and there in the last year.

I'm working on getting non-profit status.... etc.. etc.. but honestly, I have just been blessed. I guess it was all ground work for the babies.... and if it was... it was all well worth every penny.
