Question Curious to know the costs of your avian vet visits?

How much does it cost to take your bird for a checkup where you live?
I have a vet nearby that said it would cost around $60, but I am pretty sure they are not an actual 'avian' certified vet, though they say they will even see my Cockatoo.. Is that an average price for a routine checkup that includes testing?

ready for this?

My initial visit for a total exam, including DNA and other blood tests, came to $650.

Then I had to bring her in to check her foot the other day, and that visit was $95.

I live in NYC. whew!

I just took my TAG for an annual checkup which included a physical exam (listening to heart, feeling for lumps, etc.) and also a comprehensive blood test and bile acid testing. The total was $210.

Here where I live they want $70 just for an office visit. That doesn't include anything else.

For Moki's teflon poisoning incident it was $160 including blood test and antibiotics. This was an avian and exotic animal vet.

I am lucky enough to have a certified avian vet that comes to my home for visits.
Because I have a rescue, and some of my babies require constant care and visits, she comes on a monthly basis.

The house call is $40 flat fee.

Nails and beaks are $35 - $40 for nails, beaks, and wing trims for my larger birds
$20 - $25 for my smaller birds like the conures and tiels.

Examination fee for each bird runs about $30 - $35 for each bird

The tests usually run between $35 and $95 depending on the lab.

My vet bills usually average around $900 - $1,300 per month.

I also have her do an environmental swab test every six months which runs $40

Would you mind sharing what happened? I use Teflon pans and am just beginning to learn about it. I have had birds for more than 14 years and have never had a problem. What are the symptoms?

I am glad that your bird recovered. :-)

Young - How can you afford that ??? Every month ? I want to be a rescue someday too but wow... These prices are a little higher than I was expecting to hear... However I want all my birds to be checked by a vet within this year.. Better start saving I guess. *sigh* it would be real nice if money wasn't an object though...
