Parrots made the CBS news
Did anyone catch this last night? I didn't see it until now but my SGT was telling me about it. I think it's great for the parrot world so those who are thinking of a bird but haven't done their research will think twice before buying a bird or they will do their research. I enjoyed the clip, no mixed emotions on my part. I honestly think every pet store such as PETCO and PETSMART should hold a PARRONTING class. They have training classes for dogs and their owners, why not prepare future bird owners with a class? Maybe some of these things won't happen. Just my two cents.

I thought it was an excellent show. Full of information for people who think they want a bird just so it talks!

I didnt see it until a certain "famous" author that is on my facebook mentioned it and how upset she was.. Not sure why she was upset I watched it too, in fact I not just watched it I read the manuscript and I have no mixed feelings about it.
I do not buy my birds (beyond the parakeets I had yrs ago) from Petsmart/Petco but I agree ppl need to be better informed when they make a purchase of a parrot. All my birds came either from the breeder/all avian store/or rescue (I had worked w a breeder for my U2 but it fell through) anyhow each and every one of the ones I just mentioned did question me and did educated me (though I had done so much research prior to considering bringing them into my home) I think perhaps thats what all ppl that breed, sell, rehome need to do.. Because anyone can just walk in and say "oh isnt that cockatoo sweet I want it" pay for it take it home and not realize the hell they may end up living in then the bird and the family sufferes and the bird is then rehomed and the cycle will continue until someone who knows what they are doing, or getting into finally gets the animal. |
