Conure with wet nares/allergies possible??

Hey everyone!!

Just wondering if anyone else has a bird that may have allergies?

some of you know, my conure has had wet nares almost every day for a few weeks now... it's clear and thin.. not brown or anything.

Otherise acting fine... she'll sneeze and it'll spray the wet stuff around... I can feel it on my skin sometimes...

She's been to the vet about this... he basically said that everything is fine and it looks environmental...

Anything I can do for her? Anyone else experience this?

We do have a air purifier that we use sometimes... doesn't seem to help...
We don't burn candles or use cleaners around them... no air fresheners or anything...no teflon...

Thanks for all your help in advance..

Sounds like possible dry air. I would try adding more baths. What avian vet are you seeing?

I have a plumhead that sounds like she has a stuffy nose first thing in the mornings and even then it is not every morning. She had the blood test etc and there was nothing that showed up in the findings. Perfectly normal.

Maybe she needs some more moisture in the air? Could be the dry air that causes it or irritates it maybe.
As far as the air cleaner, for it to make any difference in your home it needs to be run pretty much all the time or you won't get any of the benefit. You also need to make sure you keep the filters clean as well. I have one filter in the bird room and actually have two more that I stopped using at one point for some reason. I really need to get them out and find a place for them and use them.
Just make sure that you have the ionizer/ozone turned off on them. They can cause too much ozone in the air and that can cause problems with your lungs as well as theirs. (And for those that need proof - there are many articles out there on that)

Opening the window might help as well to get some fresh air in the house.

I don't have anybody here with allergies though I know they exist.
Hope you are able to find out something or it stops.

hmm... dry air?

That could be....

Maybe we could try getting a spray bottle for her... now she takes her own baths maybe once every 3 days or so in her water dish...

Maybe I could try spraying her down as well...

Yes, we definitely have I ionizer thing off (not sure how you spell it LOL) I've heard bad things about that as well..... icky stuff!

We see Geoffrey Olsen at the Medical Center for birds... he's an awesome doctor... his partner vet that works there too is also awesome! They explain everything and take a lot of time just talking about your bird with you... if anyone lives in the Walnut Creek CA area I would reccomnend them!
