Adopted more Fids.

Last week I was at a cookout and a fellow guest there confirms with me that I have
a bird, and then askAs if I would like a few more. I ask the usual questions of what kind, where are they? How much for them and so on, as I was getting
ready to close on my house and wanted to have all avaibile funds for that.

So the story goes...

So I call the number and it is a friendly older gentleman who is getting married and his new wife wants to travel so he must give up the birds.
A 12 year old cockatiel all white named Snow and a 2.5 year old african grey name Koko.

Having rehomed my scardy B+G and getting a baby tiel for my daughter we felt up to the task.

I met him the next afternoon (a week ago today) and ohhhhhhhh boy. The tiel is sitting in a cage with no toys, looking bored to heck
he says she is not tame at all. Yet we can pick her up without a fight. Hmmmmm. The grey has plenty of toys, and a complete lack of feathers.
Yes.. only a head and wings. Oh boy. Worse yet - the cages are COVERED in filth, feces, old food and yuck.
The poor little guy was shaking like a leaf. Hmmm. He is only two. I get the rest of the story, he had rehomed the grey in January from a widow, and in a month
had started plucking. He took Koko to the vet - who gave him dog skin medicine. ????? and still three months later no result.
I ask how much he is wanting for these poor babies - and all he wants is a good home!!! This is great, total of 3 cages, buckets of food, and toys and the babies.

I load um all up and hand the man 50 bucks for his time and scram. I hate to say that, but I then had a job to do.
Koko was SINGING and chirping the whole way to his new home, saying thanks for jail breaking him. Snow was still sitting there bored to heck.

I get um home and leave Koko + Snow in the car carriers for the next two hours with me in the garage and drive way so they can see what I am doing. It took me and the
Missus TWO HOURS to scrub the inch of poo and yuck off just one cage. The others werent so bad - but still needed scrubing and disinfecting.
We cleaned the cages and threw away all wood perches and cotton toys.
We then introduce them to their new digs, Koko singing and dancing - he already even knows how to step up.
Snow for not being tame is acting quite docile. Hmmmmm
Popsicle sticks to play with, phone books to shred and clean new digs Koko was getting new feathers in 3 days. In a week he has most of his down feathers in
and his tail pin feathers are on their way as well. I havent seen any signs of plucking. He was on the counter having breakfast with us and eating cheese and
going to town. He is a quite the personality. Def not as scared as the Macaw who wont get down off my shoulder for any reason.

So I then take both to the vet. Koko is doing very good. I get a script for some anti parasite meds just to prevent anything from the mess he was in.
Snow - well.. I got her not a moment to soon (as we speak) Vet cautioned us her prognosis is guarded. GRRRRR. I knew it.
She was low on the perch, wings drooped, eyes half shut, and not eating. She has a liver infection.
Got her some shots and some meds and liver detox from the health food store. Two days later she is doing muuuuch better. She is preening, and even nipped at us
when we went to give meds this morning. Fiesty is a great sign.

Koko is one smart lil dude, during our weekly cage scrub outs I removed his bottom grate and 15 minutes later find him on top of the cage singing away. He
figured out that he could climb down, and back up. He already identifies his own cup and likes to play catch with us.

I am soooo glad I was able to save these beautiful lil babies.
Hopefully now my macaw gets over her jealousy rather quickly!

Oh..and I did close on the house!!! WOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!

Wow, you've had a lot going on! Congratulations! Koko knew a good thing when he saw it I guess. Glad you got to Snow in time too.

Glad you got these birds! It sounds like Koko will be much happier with you, must have been miserable at the former owner's in those lousy conditions.
