Thanks, Reta!

This morning Jezebel made some new sounds, not words, but undecipherable sounds. I loved it! Patience....

Our ringneck wasn't talking much yet as his 1st birthday rolled around, but he was starting to mimic other sounds, the kissing sound we make to him, my husbands whistles, and a few other noises. Suddenly one evening I heard him say "Good Boy" three or four times, followed by his name, "Joey" and "boy, boy boy"! I nearly fell over!

We talk to him a lot, and he listens to the radio when we're busy in other parts of the house, but there are two of us there too. However, the phrases he started out with are ones we say directly to him, all the time. Now we've added "Pretty Boy" "Be a good bird" and "Peek a boo" to our vocabulary, its pretty awesome!

That sounds just like what's happening here, Jen. She's already whistling, making the kissing sounds, and snorting. I guess one day she'll just burst out with words the way your GORGEOUS bird did! wow, he's stunning!

Well thank you! I'll tell him he has an admirer - he totally knows he's gorgeous, he has SUCH a big head :-P

Your girls is gorgeous too, a grey would have been my first choice if not for the dust issue, my husband is way too sensitive for it, but they just have the most sweet, beautiful faces!

He's doing call & response type of stuff now, I'll say Peek-a-boo and get one back, or we'll go back and forth with Mmmwuah for a bit. I can't get him started if he isn't already chattering, but if he's started chitter-chattering then I can usually get a kiss or peekaboo out of him.

Oh, and he has this little clucking noise he's made, ever since we got him and I mimic it back to him, well now he's started mimicing my mimic of him! Crazy! And my husband gives him little rapid-fire kisses sometimes and now he makes little clucky-kissy noises on his own.

They are so smart and fast to pick stuff up, his wolf-whistle is PERFECT and he's starting to make new whistles that he's made up from them - it BLOWS my mind!!!

oy, a friend of mine just came over for a short visit, and while we were talking to each other, Jezebel suddenly got quite verbose with all her different sounds. When my friend left, she stopped. maybe there's something to that theory~

Hiccup would say "hello" in two different tones-one of them bright and cheery, the other one like a shy guy with his head hung low! He also brought his fart, burp,hey-that sounds like it's coming from across the street. He now says "whatcha doing? You hooo", love you, kisses sound, wolf whistles, siren, barking dog, clucks like a chicken, sings opera-like, says "shut up". I tell him what food I'm giving him in his dish or on a spoon. This week he's been on time out about four times so he should learn that word. I think it's just like kids, they learn from examples, plus with the neighbors coming by and talking with him, I think there will be more to learn.

Ollie and I live alone and the majority of the things she says are things I say to her. Step up, Hi Ollie, Hi Boo, shake-shake, come'ere, wanna nut/drink, go to your boing/stand/cage, that's naughty, no, whatcha doin, (goin) buh bye, hi little birdie, go potty, good girl, you be quiet, hi goosey girl.....etc etc etc. The only things I can think of that she's learned from 2 people talking are whaaaat? and camille.

Ollie didn't say her first word until she was almost a year old. I wouldn't say now that she has an incredibly impressive vocabulary (over 50 words and phrases for sure) but what's amazing about her is how amazingly she speaks in context and makes appropriate noises (i pick up the shampoo bottle and she'll make the exact click of the lid opening, or I reach for the microwave and she makes the perfect beeps vs reaching for the timer where she'll make that particular beep, and on and on and on....)

Bottom line of course is that she could be completely mute and my love for her would be no different whatsoever. The things she says amaze me and make me laugh, but it doesn't define who she is.

My CAG Dante is 2. He only said things my son said, but none of it was what we said to each other but things my son said directly to him. Now he's saying the things I say to him, but this has been the last 3 weeks. Now he says (and these are all things I say directly to him). Dante Bante - Good Boy - It's okay - Wanna go outside? - Wanna go get Oz? - I love you
