wow my bird is no african grey but me living alone could explain ducky not speaking and her father (not mine) speaking well. She knows what words mean, if I say give me a kiss she will make the kissing sound, but I say good morning, good night, bye bye, hello etc for almost 2 years consistently and she has never said them back. My boyfriend just moved in, do you guys think there is hope of Ducky picking something up if I ask my boyfriend to repeat me when I say bye, hello etc???

Hi, not to worry! I got an african grey 10 years ago and my age 6 months he was talking up a storm although I lived alone. Actually, not alone, with my dog. So of course he orders the dog around but also repeats thing that I say to him. "what nut treats", "time to go nighty night", "Cio Cio is a good boy", "Cio Cio needs a bath", "go lie down", "time for doggy foode", etc, etc. etc....probably 100 words/sentences.
