^ I agree, there are things that can be done to bring awareness to this situation.. It's not right that people can just get away with that kind of cruelty. It makes me angry too.. and those chapters in Of Parrots and People regarding smuggling and trapping and selling just made me feel sick. I had no idea before that people were so cruel throughout the whole process.

I know exactly how you feel! I am in Texas, and last summer I went out to a flea market in Arlington (suberb) with my son to possibly get him some new furniture. I swear I will never ever go there again. There wasn't just ONE vendor with birds in horrific conditions, there were rows and rows of shops like this....many right out in the Texas 100 degree heat with no shade and water full of poop. Just lined up in a cage wing to wing on the bottom. It did literally make me feel ill, and my son had to pull me away from one place that I started telling off. Truly disgusting!!!

Yeah, it is really awful...

I just hate thinking about those kind of people... it truely is frightening to see human beings treating animals that way.

I was looking at them, thinking how they sleep soundly at night knowing what they are doing?

I wish there was someone I could talk to or someone that could make it so they can't sell birds that way...I think animal services here wouldn't care...

I think the illegal smuggling of birds is a big industry, unfortunately. As for the way those people are treating animals, I think there are penalties. I'm sure it isn't difficult to track them down if they are at the same flea market all the time, no?

But I don't know if they are smuggling these particular birds though.... they might be breeding them from their house?

I'm not sure
