Epidermal Inclusion Cyst

Has anyone's bird ever developed a cyst (like the ones we sometimes get on heads)? My 42 y/o B&G has developed under his left ceres. The vet said there's no point removing it because it would come back. It's filled with cheesy-looking skin cells, some fluid and blood. (My guy was quite a trooper when samples were taken!) On the way home, I was petting him and felt another cyst on his back between his wings. I got a bit of a look at it and it wasn't red/irritated like the one under his ceres...but yup..it was a cyst.

I've had dogs that develop cysts. But I was just wondering if anyone has had a bird with one. I'll keep a close eye on it, make sure if it ruptures, we get it cleaned up...keep it from getting scratches on the surface, ect...

Comments, anyone?
Thanks

I haven't had a bird develop a cyst... but as far as the bump between the wings, that's probably the preen gland, aka the Uropygial Gland.

Check out this thread
Probably a really stupid question... but I'm asking anyway!

We have a re-homed Amazon, here with us just over two months. She has a cyst over her left eye. One vet saw her before we brought her home, and said not to do anything with it unless it changed, grew, leaked fluid, etc. It has remained exactly the same. Another vet wanted us to bring her in and have it surgicially removed (I e-mailed him photos). This bird was never handled, has real fear issues, and is settling into our home, and I didn't want to stress her unnecessarily by subjecting her to toweling, driving an hour to the vet, surgery, and after care, destroying the trust she is slowly building with us. I was told it could be an encapsulated cyst, so it's very interesting to read about your bird and what your vet recommended. There has been no change at all in Paca's cyst since we got her March 22nd.

If it is non-cancerous and not causing the bird any discomfort than I would leave it alone.

I almost adopted a B & G who had a mutilation ....I took a photo and showed it to my vet. It was a squamous cell carcinoma cancer.

If it isn't cancer and not bothering him/her---no worries and cause to celebrate!
