On birdbreeders they are about 400-499 I didn't realize gold-caps were that expensive! But I think 899 is a bit much! In our area african greys go for that much.

Wow are the prices in other countries so different. I live in Canada and an African grey sells retail for $2199. Now from a breeder they generaly sell for $1000+. Black cap conures retail are at least $499

Greys go for around 1500-2500 here, if you are getting them from a reputable breeder or shop - the shop Joey came from specializes in parrots only and only deals with a handful of handpicked breeders, so their prices are a little higher, but they also give you a year guarantee on the bird's health... they are an awesome shop!

*edit* Of course, if you look at craigslist for any area or species, I don't think you really get an accurate picture of the cost - so for my area, I look at breeders who have been in business a long time and have good reputations.

Some of the breeders around here seem to sell their parrots awfully cheap, but our avian vet mentioned that a few of them seem to always sell sick birds too!

Pricing depends on so many things: country, state, store (big box vs. "mom & pop"), breeder, hand-raised/socialized vs. parent-raised, etc.
