aviary!!!

My family visited a friend's new house in the country and she let us have the aviary the previous owners had left behind! Luckily, we had brought our trailer!

It took all day to set it up. We scrubbed the entire aviary inside and outside with white vinegar, warm water and steel wool; then we bought sand for the base, patched up a gap in the aviary, cleaned the old feeders, picked some native branches and filled it with toys and goodies. They had a trial run today and everyone seemed to like it. I will be leaving them in there very gradually later each night until they are used to their new home. The only problem is, I was going to let Ash stay in there while I am at school except she becomes uncharacteristically aggressive towards the budgie so I can't leave her in there alone. I am hoping to finally breed Peanut and Indiana when I set up nesting boxes in the warmer weather!

From this:

To this!

Preening is a sign they're settling in well!

Thanks :) I gave my old aviary to that friend around 3 years ago, so it was a fair deal really! The tiels are enjoying themselves and the budgie is relaxed and not bouncing off the walls for once! It was 8 degrees C out there today but a very fluffy Peanut said hello when I went to visit them and sang me a song so they're happy as can be! It's just a little aviary, but it's better than a cage and they have so much room! I can't wait till they can fly around in there... right now there are branches for them to get around from spot to spot. I am thinking about getting button quails for the bottom.
