Cant decide Linnie or Ringneck?

I currently have a WB caique, pionus, Princess of wales parakeet and now have one choice b/w baby Ringneck or baby lineolated parakeet. I know the Ringnecks are louder but how much louder? Louder then an amazon? Can the Ringneck if socialized young be as cuddly as the Linnie? Any advice or suggestions or stories about your own greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Well let me see - I have both.

It really is going to depend upon what you want.
Do you want a really sweet bird that you can almost forget that they are there, and also a little shy but oh so very sweet.

OR

Do you want a bird that thinks they are larger than life, can be a little loud at times, will try to get away with anything and everything?

Honestly, the ringneck and the linnie are so totally the opposite it isn't even funny. As far as cuddly, the linnie will prefer to find a place to kind of hide out on you - they tend to like have a hiding spot.

A ringneck will sit on your shoulder, head or arm and at the same time be looking for something to seek and destroy (most of the time-just ask my shirts).

The ringnecks are wonderful birds that are not afraid of much and they like to get into everything, they can test your patience and they can be loud at times as well as dealing with the beak at times.

The linnie is just a sweet innocent little bird that is very quiet and I have never been bitten by mine. They are a little shy and are known to want to "hide" some but they are very sweet birds. They do love to have their little heads rubbed on and will turn every which way to get the loving.

Ringnecks do like loving on their terms - some more so than others. THey are very independent birds so you do not have to cater to them 24/7 unless it has to do with food. They love it!

So now it is just which bird is going to fit you better.

Honestly, I think you should get both. Problem solved.

I love them both and couldn't choose between the two since they are different. I do love my sassy Ringnecks though.

Thanks so much..I really wish I could get both! The ringneck appears to be very similiar to my caique and the liine to my parrotlet. Though either talk. As far as dispositions does male/female matter?

I like both, but that is me.
THe boys tend to be a little more laid back.
The females can get quite bossy in the springtime and they are loyal to their favorite person. The girls that I have seen seem to gravitate towards the male person in the family but it will depend on the bird.
My girls love me and are not too taken with the boy ringnecks - as far as they are concerned if they had their choice between the boy ringies and me - I would win every time.
My girls are like little colored cockatoos and I can love on them any where most of the time.
The boys like to have their head and neck ruffled and scratched when they are in the mood for it.

I think that both males and females can be good family birds but don't be surprised if the girls do have a favorite over everyone else and get kind of snappy at others. Not all are like that but ya just never know.

The boys do not have as much of the hormonal issues as the females so in a family setting - they may be the better choice.
Still, a girl can be a wonderful companion.

MY IRN is very bossy, demanding, the biggest brat, and LOUD but when she is in the mood to be loved, there is NOTHING sweeter than my Scarley!

I don't know anything about linnies, however I know my Helio steals my heart over and over with his sweetness. He is very gentle and kind & I've never been bitten by him. Although, I am his numero uno... if he is on my shoulder somewhere all someone has to do is walk by and he screams so I know someone is what he considers too close to my baby. What's funny is sometimes the person he is screaming about hadn't even seen he was there and he scares the daylights out of them! He never tries to bite them though... he just likes to set off the "false alarm for birdnapping"... Fuji has always said Helio was a tattle tale! That being said, he is happy to have "table time" with my sons or anyone who is willing to play with him @ the table for that matter... he'd just rather be handled by his mommie, that's all... he loves to interact with anyone once he realizes they are not there to birdie-nap him... the nut.

My Alex female is the sweetess baby when she hears the microwave or refrigerator opening. She does like to put her head beside my cheek when I am singing to her and is most lovable right after I feed her....but....she can nip if she is not in the mood to come out and play. One thing that I have learned is when I tell her to step up I follow through even though she does not want to. At these times I usually have a hand held perch that I use. Of course she is still very young, I am inexperienced as far as Alex's and I am sure that she will show her true colors which by the way are very beautiful....All in all I would not trade her for the world and I like her sassy ways!
