Avain Adventures or Featherland?
Hi! I'm new here.
I have two conures, a Sun Conure and a Gold Capped Conure. Sunny will be 8 in Novermber, Kupo (our GC) just turned 8. We love the girls very much and they're best friends. We've had Sunny's cage for 7 years and Kupo's for 6. They're just in standard petstore cages and we're looking for something better. Much better! We were unfortunately rear ended horribly last year (leaving me with perminant neck issues) and our lawsuit has just settled and we've got some money. I've decided we're investing in Stainless Steel cages. I've narrowed it down to either a Featherland cage (18X27) or an Avian Adventures cage (Chiquita). My concern is bars. I want welded bars, nothing with drilled or punched through bars. Why should I pay for a cage thats going to rust from and food build up down there. Stain-LESS steel does still stain and rust eventually, so I'd like to avoid this completely since neither of our birds is going to 'break' welds. I know the Featherland cages use welded bars, however I keep finding conflicting information about the bars on Avian Adventures cages. Some sites say its welded, other sites don't say, and stlll other sites say its welded but in upclose photos I can SEE where they're drilled through. We want a play top thats removable, but we'd also prefer the top to have a slide out grate and a slide out tray (featherland has that for sure), but would settle for just a tray. Kupo goes 'paper picking' for whatever foods she can grab! I'm also wondering about how stable they are since both are knock down no bolts cages. |

I understand bar spacing, I've already selected appropriately sized and spaced cages.
What I am asking is if anyone knows if the Avian Adventures line of cages has welded bars or if the bars are punched or drilled. Welded bars are bars that are welded onto the next bar or corner, punched or drilled bars are bars that spin freely inside the tube or square they are inserted into to keep the cage together. No one here has an Avian Adventure cage? |

I think I might be able to answer your question.
I own both the Chiquita by AA and the 2120 model from Featherland, neither in stainless, but the design is the same. My AA cage seems to look welded, however, it's hard to tell. None of the bars spin freely as you described. They might be drilled thru, then welded over where the bars meet .. or perhaps once the powdercoat is added, you can't see the punch thru holes. The Featherland cage bar joints look the same as the AA, again, with the powercoating it's really hard to tell. I love both cages .. here are a few things to consider. Once you remove the Dome from the Featherland cage to add the playtop, you will lose significant cage space, the AA Chiquita has much more vertical space than the Featherland with the playtop. I was going to get the 1827 model, until I saw how much space I lost with the playtop, so I went up a size to the 2130. Also, when you remove the playtop from the Featherland cage, the cage top is wide open. You can remove the playtop from the AA and the cage is still closed. There is no "top" to the Featherland cage once you remove the playtop. Don't know if that matters .. can't imagine moving the playtops around that much, they're not light nor small. The seed skirts are both cages are great, but Featherland wins ... they overlap in such a way that piece of food and such rarely get inbetween the seams. The AA is good with this too, but Featherland has a slightly better design. If you go for the Featherland .. I'd highly recommend the external feeder option .. they're awesome, and open up a lot of room in the cage. Both cages are extremely sturdy, don't worry about the fact that there are no screws .. no way these cages are coming apart unless you take them apart. I love the fold down/knock down features .. so easy to move when you need to. You can't go wrong with either cage, they are both extremely well made and well designed. Hope this helps. |
