Avicalm for super sun conure (story)

I'm out back, minding my own business, smoking a cigarette and on the phone trying to order my contact lenses when my wife comes down with the macaw hollering and screaming.

EVERYTHING is an emergency for this woman, so i automatically assume it's another blood feather or something relatively minor. She's got blood on her hands and the bird has blood running out of his beak and she's screaming something about "he fell" so i'm thinking maybe he broke/chipped his beak, but he's moving it fine, making noises, and otherwise acting relatively normal. I examine his beak - no damage noted, so the blood must be coming from in his mouth. After cleaning him up enough to where i can see, and letting the bleeding slow down (no easy task because he's horrified of towels, paper towels, tissues, sham wows or any similar product near his face) I shine the light in his beak - and i see the "wound" - a paper cut sized nick on the tip of his tongue. My wife calms down enough for me to explain to her that he has a small cut on his tongue, the blood will clot, and in a short while he will heal as nature intended.

Now she tells me how it happened.

Lately the horny little territorial orange terror (sun conure) has been quite defensive, and views blue and gold macaws as threats. So there has been some harassment, but tonight my wife had let everyone out and was going to pick up the macaw when the (did i mention he's clipped?) sun conure decides to do an aerial assault on the macaw. He falls backwards on his cage, and the conure switches to ground mode. He lunges forward and bites the macaw's tongue. All else aside, quite bold for a bird that weighs 1/10th of his victim.

So...

Anyone had any luck with that AviCalm stuff?

Seems that restricting the daylight, alone time, and "split shifts" with the birds away from each other hasn't been successful.

I'm just thankful for my sweet little sennie that gets along with all people and birdies...

After I stopped laughing (you tell a great story!), I decided I needed to reply, since I am the Birdboard's "resident AviCalm avicator".

Our Mackie is a very aggressive bird and AviCalm is the ONLY thing that makes him "manageable"... on AviCalm, he is a PET. He is affectionate, warm, friendly, even comedic... playful and fully feathered. Off AviCalm, he is aggressive to the point of being a weapon of mass destruction, a plucker/mutilator, screecher of vile obscenities.

AviCalm WORKS WORKS WORKS!!! And best of all, it has NO taste, and can NOT be overdosed, as it is a homeopathic remedy...

NO, I do NOT sell it... I just REALLY believe in the product!

How long has your CAG, Mackie, been on the AviCalm? I just bought some two weeks ago and was wondering how long it is to take effect? My CAG is 10-11 years old and was a rehome. I've had him since October 2008. Just a few minutes ago I was handing him a cracker and he lunged at me, grabbing the upperside of my hand... not the first time, definitely not the last! But I have been trying to watch his behavior and the one thing I've noticed is that he seems to be afraid of the parakeets in the cage next to him....he slinks over to his water dish, all the time looking at the keets ... very weird.

I really think the AviCalm is kicking in for my grey, Hiccup. I woke up to hear him talking to himself and making all his little noises, that I haven't heard in a long time. So nice to have my little guy happy again. Still a few issues that will hopefully subside over time, but I'm a firm believer in this stuff! So glad to have read about it here.
