Disaster kits?

We had some interesting storms last night, and it got me thinking. I figure most everywhere in the US, you can have one natural disaster or another. Do any of you have any plans in place? I taught my oldest son what to do and he knows he will have to hold onto his little brother, who has disabilities, while I secure the critters. I keep the crates beside the garage door and the birdie first aid kit with the food. We have enough crates for the dog, cat, 2 larger birds and the little ones can stay in their cages with heavy blankets over them. I do need to buy a jug of bottled water and keep that in the birdie room too.
Just wondering what everyone else does

This is a very interesting topic. I know the red cross has a very good pamphlet / information about this on thier website. I have attached a link that will take you to it: (hopefully it works)

Be Red Cross Ready

It is suggested that (for people) three days worth of food / water and medical supplies should be kept handy in case of an emergency. I would think this would be the same for pets, if not more for pets because not all shelters will accept pets and/or have food and supplies on hand for them. Especially if a specialized food is needed.

Also one last thing to think about....where will you go? For example, if I had to evacuate where I would I be able to go and stay where I would be able to take my dog cats and birds?

Some of this stuff seems like overkill, and hopefully no one here will ever have to use the plan.

BirdChannel.com has a video and information on making a Bird Disaster Kit. (http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-hous...aster-kit.aspx)

Personally, I have some Lafeber bars, water bottles, carriers and a towel near my birds. I hope when that big California earthquake comes, my birds will be ok. They're used to the small ones...
