Still trying to fly a lot...

Well, Lingo is one persistent little dude! He is STILL trying to do a lot of flying. This makes me nervous because I can't always catch him. I don't want to make a dive for him and accidentally smoosh him. Tonight, the slippery little bugger decided he was going to attempt to fly to the other handlebar in the shower, and as I was shampooing my hair, I couldn't catch him before he plopped to the shower floor. I hope he is okay, he looks ok. He's just sitting on his perch now, drying.

What should I do? He was allowed to fledge as a baby. He seems to want to fly a lot. He likes me, I don't think he is trying to fly away. I just think he likes to explore. Should I dive to catch him, no matter what?

I don't want him hurting himself and each time I haven't been able to catch him, he makes this little "Squeek!" when he hits the floor. I don't like it.

Other than flying (unsuccessfully) a lot, he is doing great. He is eating good, having pretty normal poos of all colors (from the coloring in the food) and enjoying all of his toys.

I would like to keep his wings clipped because of the dogs. But I don't know about all this flying. What am I doing wrong? What should I do?

still trying to fly alot

Your're not doing anything wrong. I have birds here that are clipped after their first flight and they still insist on flying. Most of the time the birds have a very outgoing personality and are curious. As long as the bird glids down to the floor it is okay. The little peep could just be the bird calling you. Sounds like this one is full of personality. It may take a little time for this one to settle down and not try to fly off so much.

Keep his wings clipped. He'll learn to glide and land soon and will not hurt himself. If the issue is your afraid the dogs will attack, do not let him out of the cage unless you are there to supervise or the dogs are in another location in the house and cannot get at your bird.

No, I'm not worried about the dogs attacking him. They stay in the kitchen when I am playing with Lingo in the living room. Except Kira, she can be in the living room with Lingo, because she has learned a valuable lesson... When the Lingo gets down to the floor, she runs in the OPPOSITE direction! lol

I hope he learns to glide soon. He's not a very good glider so far. Lol

Neither were mine as babies, between 4 and 6 months of age they start to get the hang of it. No more plops to the ground, just glide and run.
