Mine lived 12 years. Several friends have lived well over 10 years. I've found a couple of website references that say budgies lifetimes are five to eight years... But the vast majority say a well-cared for budgrigar lives for a minimum of eight years most sites are 10 to 15 years.

I suspect that the four to six year lifespan is due to a primarily seed diet with minimal exercise...

Yeah, maybe a budgie would be a good choice. I love the green ones for some reason, i'll have to research them, some more, lol. I guess I should rule out the busy species such as lovebird and parrotlet, because I don't really want one that needs constant entertainment while i'm holding it. I mean, I don't want 1 who JUST sits on my hand or shoulder or finger, just not one that needs constant entertainment while i'm holding it. I can probably give an hour 1/2 of undivided and and hour of just sitting on my shoulder while i do my homework or relax. Are there any birds that are kinda go with the flow, or aren't super hyper like a caique. Well rounded birds I guess?

PS, I still realize they require plenty of attention, and I WILL give it as much as I can on any given day.

Maybe you could get a pair of budgies? If thats the bird you're thinking about, then if you get a pair they can keep each other company and entertain each other when you're not able to spend time with them.. You could get them a large cage with lots of toys and let them have time to fly around outside of their cage together for exercise. It's fun to watch budgies interact with each other, and I've heard that if you get hand raised ones from a good breeder they can be friendly and enjoy being with you if you spend time with them each day..
