I think my Hahn's macaw is actually a Severe Macaw

I got Cody about a month ago. He is about 10-12 years old. When we got him I was told that he was a Hahn's macaw. I suspect that he is not a Hahn's macaw but he is actually a Severe Macaw. Is this right?

Yes, you're right...definitely a Severe, and not a Hahns! (My Beaker, below, is a Hahns.) Severes are considerably larger, have way more white skin on their faces, and have the little brown forehead patch, where Hahn's foreheads are blue.

He's quite the cutie!

Thanks! That explains why he weighs about twice as much as I read Hahn's were supposed to weigh.

Looks like a beautiful Severe Macaw, aka Chestnut-fronted Macaw!

Yeah, he doesn't look like a hahn's. What a pretty bird--his colorful feathering is absolutely beautiful!

He is not only cute, but so silly. He likes to play peek-a-boo, plays tug with a sock, does back flips off my hand, plays hide and seek (although I always find him because he starts laughing). I have read a lot that they are not great pets and at first I have to admit my daughter was calling him the demon bird. But now he will go to anybody in the family- including my husband (as long as I am not there). He wants to be held and cuddled and fussed over most of them time. We never had a bird before and couldn't be happier with the one we got!!
