Toc outside.. and camping?

Heyy everyone, me and my sister took Toc outside for his second time today, and i just wanted to share some pictures! :) he absalutely looovvedd it! He ran around on the grass, got to play on a tree branch, played in the flowers, and explored everywhere! We're deffinately going to take him out more often.. i just wish i could take Cookie out, but i dont trust her without a harness like Toc, and i cant get her to wear one..

Also, i was wondering how many of you take your fids camping with you? My family just bought a camper and we're going to probably be using it alot this summer, and i want to know if it'd be okay to take them along a few times? I know that changes can be stressful for birds, would camping be too much? The camper would be full (me, my brother sister and parents, and two chihuahuas) but cookie and Toc would both have small cages to stay in (or in Tocs cage, a carry crate with perches ) but Toc would spend most of the time outside with us and the two of them would most likely have some time out of their cages to fly around in the trailer.. would it stress them out too much? ?? I really dont want to go camping and leave them home, and if i had to i still have to find someone who'd come and take care of them! ( i know alot of people who would, but no "bird" people..)

Why would it be stressful? Wouldn't it be more stressful to be alone in a cage waiting for you to come back while some stranger comes in and feeds them and cleans their cage? I like to take my kids everywhere (Dogs and Bird) if I can. Unfortunately some people and campgrounds are not so pet friendly... That's a problem.

That is true, but anyone i get to take care of them will be someone they've met/spent time with before.. i was thinking of my Uncle because he has a bird and would take care of them and let them out and spend time with them.. but he usually comes on vacation with us and his family... My grandfather would do it, he looovves birds and has spent time with Toc and Cookie on more than one occasion, but he HATES having them locked in their cage and thinks they should be able to do whatever they want.. i want them to be able to do whatever they want, too, but i'm scared he'd let them out together, leaver them along for a few minutes, and I'd come home to a completely plucked Cookie ..

My mom talked to their previous owner when she went and picked them up, and she said that the lady took one of them camping all the time with her, but she can't remember which one she took... I'm thinking it would have been talk because he wont fly away, and Cookie gets scared easily... But i'd either take both of them, or neither of them, because they always want to be together, and if i can't take both of them then at least they can keep each other company. ( and i wouldn't be gone for more then 1-2 nights (3 at the most) because i babysit weekdays 8 - 6 ish...

Funny! You are a good bird owner. TAKE THEM! How will Cookie get to experience new things and not be afraid if you leave her home. They will have a great time. We travel a lot and our birds go with. In fact, our birds hatched their babies in a fifth wheel travel trailer last Feb. If you enjoy taking them, they'll enjoy going.

I took Moki tent camping and it was really fun for everyone! :) I think it depends on the bird. Moki's attached to us, so being with us was the most important thing in his mind. If a bird is not as attached to a person, it would probably be stressful.

Also make sure it doesn't get too hot in the camper, or too cold at night.

those photos are adorable!! You should find a photo contest to send those to.

That was my idea, too. i really want to take them with us when we go, but they're not attached to us. Sure, Cookie seems to favour and Toc seems to favour my sister Ali, but really they're bonded together.

I think Toc would be okay because hes not scared of anything... i dont know i just have a feeling he'd be fine. but i dont know about Cookie. Maybe it would work with the same idea, since they're attached to each other the most important thing to them would be that they both came with us? Thats why i won't leave Cookie at home and just take Toc.. i just have a feeling that if i take Cookie something bad would happen, but i doubt it.

And thanks! i love the pics too I like to second one, we put him at the bottom of some sticks tied together that are over a small climbing plant, and he climber up there, sat like that, and looked veeeeeerrrrrrry proud of himself. and hmmm... a photo contest? where could i find one of those?

I still rrrreeally wish i could take Cookie, but she can fly pretty good even with her wings clipped and wont let me near her with a harness... the only reason we can take Toc is because he can't fly, AT ALL. he just... falls. His previous ownder practically butchered his wings, leaving a few on one side (probably because he bit) saying it would be easier for us to "train him" and since hes plucked/chewed the feather off he can't even catch any wind to get him up... At least he enjoys it out there!

Well, we live in the city and there aren't really many hawks where we are, and we were hovereing right over top of him with our hands around him, you just can't see it in the pics. He's not really in those tree's, he's in my backyard in front of them on a branch we picked, and that grass is just a basball feild...
