BirdBathwithMouthwash&WitchHazel
I found this "Perfect Preen Bird Bath" from Home
Just wanted to know if anyone has ever done this? One Spray Bottle 2 tsp Scope mouthwash 1 tsp witch hazel Mix mouthwash & witch hazel with warm water in spray bottle. Spray lightly avoiding the bird' face. Be careful not to drench your bird. It is best to do this in the morning so your bird has all day to dry. If the bird's face gets dirty, use a wash cloth with solution. This bird bath will promote preening and good feather growth. |

Doesn't mouthwash have alcohol in it (and god knows what else)? If so wouldn't that dry rather than condition?

I don't use anything but water. When I am dealing with a plucker, I do add aloe juice, not gel. I have never had any problems with the aloe being drying. I would worry about a bird inhaling stuff sprayed into its face.

I would go with "If in doubt leave it out". Just warm water for me, in spray bottle, on Tweety.
We did use a very lite detergent added to water to hand wash a mate's Cockatoo, but that was to help remove some grease and oil from her feathers.

Just curious where you found this recipe? I couldn't find it on the link.... It does sound odd but who knows? I often wonder what the store bought bird baths have in them. I just use water as well.

Plain water, preferably non-chlorinated, is the best. Birds in the wild get pure rainwater. Why add chemicals and other things to pure water?
